rolling the ball to half court, then after fouling repeatedly with fouls to give to preserve time, letting valuable seconds tick off the clock.

Seems as though they were thinking the game was a lot closer than it was.

Didn't get that at all. If they wanted to stop the clock and let UConn shoot free throws they should have started that with 7-8 minutes to go. But that is a lottttttt of free throws.

It just seemed stupid. They looked like they weren't going to try the foul-and-free-throw thing, and then they fouled (including that truly intelligent Duke player who fouled herself out for no reason) up to the limit and then backed off. I just cannot imagine what, if anything, was going through their coach's mind during all this.

It's really pretty easy to understand if you don't think about it. Duke wanted to be able to blame the officials for the loss but were in the uncomfortable position of not having been called for enough fouls to do so.

Duke was already halfway down the wormhole by that point and grasping at straws. They had so many fouls to give, it proved to be a huge liability.

Coach didn't look that young to me?

It was so stupid that the kids had to know it was senseless. My question is:
"Going forward -- how does this affect the kids' respect for and faith in their coach?"

It sure can't help!

I have a very strong feeling that no one will suggest that Geno got outcoached in this game.
Kaleena shot 2 for 10. Do you think anybody will suggest that she "choked"?

These late game situations should be thoroughly explained in practice sessions. Even in the men's games, it irks me that timeouts are called every 10 seconds or so in the final minutes of a close game. A good coach has his/her players instilled with the reponses to late game situations.
It would be very interesting to take a group of college level players and have them take a written test on what action to take in crucial situations. (Have the coaches take the test too).

Alex, don't ever sell a kitten short. They are much smarter than dogs!!

Nah, they only seem like it sometimes because they're independent, aloof & don't care what you think ;^) -- except for kittens

Here's my theory:
Joanne told them to foul to get tot he bonus, but once they got to the bonus, to make sure not to foul any of the better free throw shooters.

They did the first three fairly quickly, but when it came time to send someone to the line, no, can't foul Bria, she's too good, can't foul Tiff, she's too good, can't foul KML she's too good. and then they finally realized there weren't any good (or bad) options on the floor so they fouled Bria near the end of the shot clocks.

That coupled with the fact that their most experienced starter is a soph...

Problem was they had three to burn before they got to the bonus and wasted time on each of those.

And instead of inserting some "designated foulers" in the game they let one of their starters foul out. Of course it also might have been a coaching brain freeze.... It's the end of the game and we're behind and the manual says you make the other team shoot fouls.

Sorry to be so crude but the coach is inept. Have never seen anything more ridiculous, bad, bad, bad coaching decision. Ughhh, Duke is talented and loaded with AA's, the team deserves better.
