Nothing helps UConn more than getting UConn's bb and football to their respectable norms. The AAC is not configured around academics so the lower academic standards WSU brings is only an issue with regards to a competitive advantage they have in getting players with lower academic standards. Football is not an issue because the AAC is actually a decent non P5 conference football wise. UConn drags it down. WSU is a non football factor and as currently stands there is no need to bump up football. In the AAC bb has been disappointing but that relates more because UConn and Memphis have been below their recent historical history and less because of USF, Tulane and ECU. Those schools hurt but if UConn and Memphis had success in the OOC schedule the issue is neutralized. It comes down to short term versus long term gains and those are not necessarily mutually exclusive. The population demographics for WSU is an issue locally. This can be offset by the national audience that WSU can bring particularly if it's schedule is not buried in a mid major conference. However this is dependent on WSU being a top 25 team. If they stay at that level then it's a win for the AAC. If they don't it's a big loss for the AAC. Chances increase for WSU staying in the top 25 in a conference like the AAC over the Missouri Valley. If they have big boosters they can afford to pay for a decent coach even if Marshall leaves. But there are no guarantees. Given the fragile nature of our bb program this is a net positive if KO can turn around the program in two seasons. If not, even if WSU stays top 25, it could hurt more than help.
