A year ago today, if you told me KO would be coaching us for the 2012-2013 season, I'd say you we're crazy. We had just lost to Iowa state, we still had some hope alive with avoiding the APR ban, and Alex, roscoe, jeremy, and Andre were all still enrolled at UConn.
If you told me on June, 1 2012 that KO would be coaching us for th 2012-2013 season, I would call you even crazier. Handling the adversity of 3 or 4 starters leaving for the NBA or other schools could only be handled by a hall of fame coach. Who knows, not even coach K or Jc could guarantee a .500 season with that happening.
Kevin Ollie came in, and showed UConn nation that we are going to be okay. I used to disagree, but having KO as the head coach during a year without the postseason was the PERFECT decision for this program.
We are lucky because if Jim Calhoun decided to leave after this season instead, I could almost promise you that Shabazz, Boat, and DeAndre would be gone with him. We'd have to start rebuilding the program next year with a brand new coach, and our leaders would be Omar and Tyler. Yes, that wouldn't be good.
The APR ban will end up being a blessing in disguise if Bazz, Boat and deandre all decide to stay. The recipe is exactly what's needed for a final four.
Had Calhoun stayed, we would be in big time trouble. And IMO, he would have stayed had we been eligible. The program is going to build upon this year's determination and Kevin Ollie's professionalism. We may have seemed s hitty with 3 starters leaving, but in reality we are a national power with shabazz, Ryan and deandre. Now, we are set up to be the comeback kids of next year. We have an opportunity to prove the nation wrong.
