But clearly, a major percentage of all students are intercollegiate athletes. I know that in the admissions process, each varsity coach is given a quota of athletes. Each sport is allocated so many admits. The coach submits his/her list, and from that the admissions committee selects those that are both favored by the coach, and also qualified under the college's policies for admissions.
