You answered your own question when a team knows that nobody will ever step in to stop you why not keep on doing it. I am sure that if someone had taken at least 1 charge tonight alot of those late drives to basket would not have happened because cuse would not want to risk the foul.

one hard foul would make difference.. make kids think twice about driving to the basket

Calhoun has said it himself his teams don't take charges, they block shots. This one just doesn't do it well enough. Guards also offer little resistance making it tougher to get blocks.

This statement could not be more true look at UNC they have 2 7fters if Henson is on the lane he gonna try and block the shot and if Zellar is there he is more than willing to step in and take the charge.

The dirty work guys are missing, I think this is a very clean team, there arent any guys playing significant minute that are willing to get dirty, doing the things that dont show up in the stat sheet but are vital helping you win the close games where a possession here of there may change the outcome.

Except Scoe. Dirty is his game, but I wish he'd hammer a guy every once in a while.

I don't know to be honest... Drummond prefers to sidestep when a guard drives the lane rather than step between the ball and the basket and play some defense (whether it be taking a charge, simply altering a shot, or causing the guard to get rid of the ball).

Well Giffey did knock Waiters (or whoever it was) on his ass in the second half. That stopped some of the drives into the lane for a little while, but at the end Roscoe needed to be in there instead, so there was no one to blitzkrieg those drives.
