This is
MY opinion. I'm sure others may disagree with my take, and that's fine. My reason for not expressing my opinion on KLS at this time is because
I don't like to be critical of our girls. I'm a huge fan of the UConn women's team. Writing negative posts or comments about them serves no purpose. To answer your question, I've only seen ( I've viewed both games in their entirety) KLS in the two exhibition games. Since I've never seen her play in person, I can only go by what I read and what I see on TV.
Up to this point, I feel she has not played (so far) up to the hype or standards we were led to believe she can play at. What I'm trying to say in a nice way is that
I'm not impressed with what I've seen of her up to this point. She started the first game. Why didn't she start the second game? So, I chose
not to say anything about her.
I chose to say that I'll wait until the team (she) has played five games before I make an overall assessment of her skills and effectiveness to play at this level, and with this team. It should not take longer than that for her to adjust and settle down, and become comfortable with playing within Geno's system.
I've read (from other posters and articles) that the staff feels she is not ready to start just yet, because she needs to work on her defense. Also, her shooting at this time imo leaves a little to be desired. I've giving her (and everyone else) the benefit of the doubt in the last game because of the different size ball they used. I'm thinking she just hasn't settled down yet. Once she does, she'll be fine. Once she settles down and in, I expect her to pickup where she left off in high school.
That's what I'm waiting to see. For what it's worth, I think that KLS is the player she
is touted to be, and she at some point will break out of her freshman cocoon, and play like the player that Geno and staff believes she can be.
Collier on the other hand
has impressed me. I can say positive things about her (as have others who attended the games) play over the first two games. She has shown that she can play, and be effective at this level. In the brief glimpses we've had of her, I like what I see. Of the incoming freshmen, Collier
may develop faster than the others. It's believed that all 3 will be great, but Collier just might make that transition to the college game
faster than KLS or DJB.
The jury is still out on DJB because we have not seen her on the floor yet. So we
cannot make any type of assessment on her until she takes the floor, and gets some minutes under her belt. Who knows, maybe
she will develop faster than the other two.
So, in short, I acquiesced to the old adage that "If you can't say something good about someone."
