I must have missed this somewhere, but...

Why 3 pm? There is not nationwide TV audience. While the kids have off tomorrow, most adults don't. in fact, UConn is in session. Kids will have to skip class to attend the game.

Who thought this up?

There has to be good reason, no?

the women play Stanford at 7PM at Gampel. I guess the men are the warm up act.

How are ticket sales going?...I got an email from the AD last week:
$25 gets you a ticket to BOTH games plus a $5 voucher for a hot dog/soda and chips at Gampel.

The game is in Hartford though, XL Center.

I know....they want people to make the mini road trip to see both games. Or for that price....I guess, buy the package and go to just one game.

Sort of. The men's game is on regional SNY. Women are on ESPN2.
ESPN dictated the scheduling. ESPN sold some of the games (I think five of the men's and thirteen of the women's games) to SNY. But ESPN is running the scheduling and I believe the feed. SNY is a middle man in the process.

Now that's the explanation I was looking for.

So UConn was caught with its pants down because of the women's game at night.

Once it realized that ESPN was flipping it to SNY, UConn should have rescheduled for a nightgame at Gampel.... but the women were already playing.

In the future, it would be better for Manuel to avoid scheduling men's and women's games on the same day like this.

It depends on how much control Manuel has over this decision. I imagine ESPN, SNY and the AAC all had a say in the scheduling of the Yale game as well as the schedule in it's entirety. ESPN still controls streaming. I'm watching the games on ESPN3, which is fortunate since I live in a region without SNY. I do suspect your assertion is correct that UConn gave up a lot of autonomy and monies it had regarding it's sweetheart deal with SNY prior to the dissolution of the BE. They lost monies and probably some control in the attempt to cobble this cluster pluck of schools, but the alternatives were going to be worse if they didn't make the concessions.

It was a gamble. The exposure UConn gets with broadcasts can make up for the loss in immediate revenues and control if the programs are successful. I personally support this choice. It is proactive and not defensive. I'm very interested in the football coaching hire and naturally very hopeful KO will keep UConn in the national discussion. These actions plus the university making the academic decisions it is making, plus a little luck that the economic and political environment doesn't get overly destructive to the current model of higher education (a big if) will offer UConn the best opportunity to improve it's CR chances.

They scheduled it then because its a holiday and the women play a higher-profile national TV game that day. That's what it was. Don't overthink it.

Coincidentally, if anyone wants to unload a pair of tickets who can't go...PM me. I work at six PM, so its great for me. :)

Yes! As long as your cable company is part of the ESPN3 affiliated cable companies. There is a drop down menu companies affiliated with ESPN3. You have to create a password. Other than that it is a simple process.

This is the sight. /http://espn.go.com/watchespn/
If you have questions about the sight just let me know.

Does anybody know of an App that can at least stream the radio broadcast of the game. The TuneIn Radio and Radio.Com Apps always had the game through WTIC but now the games are blocked for some reason?

This 3:00 pm start sucks. I'm going to Japan for two weeks and will miss five games. I was looking forward to watching tomorrow but have to work. In '04, I was in China, and while in Tokyo for a return connection, I saw a USA Today cover mentioning that UCONN was in the national title game. I missed the entire tourney except for the title game but a friend taped the games for me. Business travel sucks and 3:00 games suck.

Wouldn't be surprised if the team comes out very sluggish for this, just coming off a high from Fri, not a big name, early start and I'd be shocked if there is a big crowd for this game, all the recipes for a lackluster effort but easy win. Hopefully people on here don't go nuts if that happens but we already got posters on here talking bout it feels like they lost on Friday after they dominated for 30 minutes, so overreactions are par for the course.
