If we assume the Huskies average 86 points/game, how much will each player score on average across the season?

Here's my guess:
Paige 18
Azzi 20
Caroline11
Nika 4
Lou 7
Dorka 10
Aaliyah 8
Amari 3
Ice 3
Ayanna 2

Depends on who starts. Who is injured. Who has the best 3pt %. Who Geno trust. Who “develops” early. Etc etc etc….

Also I'm taking "The Field" ((just one (at least one) of the below 4 will average more than Nika). :)

Nice job though-- and nice job creating threads. :)

I'm guessing UCONN scores about 80 per game (roughly the average of the last 4 seasons). Assuming everyone is healthy the full year and plays in every game (big assumption), my guess is a breakdown might be:
Bueckers-20
Fudd-14
Ducharme-14
Edwards-10
Juhasz-8
Muhl-4
Brady-4
LLS-2
Deberry-2
Patterson-2

My guess is Geno largely sticks with a 7 player rotation consisting of Buckers, Fudd, Ducharme, Edwards, Juhasz, Muhl and Brady or Deberry. LLS provides depth if perimeter players are struggling or need a breather, Patterson gets minutes but from what I've seen she's a little raw to command a rotation spot.

I am anxiously awaiting the "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" thread. I am not quite sure Thomas Aquinas got that right. But it is as relevant as these minutes, points, starters questions.

The only minutes I am wondering about are Caroline's. Looking at the post season box scores, after how she played as a starter, her tournament minutes appeared to be minimal. I believe that Geno has discussed her playing time situation but I still shake my head when I look at the box scores.
I hope this season that she gets Christyn's minutes.

I highly doubt just 80. Last year's team was decimated by injury and the 19-20 team was the weakest team UCONN had in many years. So it's really not relevant using data points from those two years.

Comparing this team to 20-21 which averaged 81.9, we'll have a better Paige, and a better scoring Azzi. And excluding the comparisons of Paige vs Paige, the overall 1-3 positions from the other players is much more potent. Because of that, the lane opens up more for the bigs than overall any of the past few seasons.

If we keep this up, we should have everyone’s +/- by the end of the month.

My favorite exercise in prognostication. Disclaimer, after doing this exercise every year I have always been wrong. I always get some things right but I also always get some things wrong. So, why do it? First and foremost it help me in some strange way to re-live some of the memories of what is always a pleasurable experience...watching our beloved Huskies in action. Also, it provides a jumping off place to see just how unpredictable women's basketball can be when it comes to individual players.

Last Year's Stats (2021 - 2022 season):

1. Paige Bueckers - 14.6 points; 18 three pointers (.353); 4.0 RBs; 67 Asst. (3.9/g); 17 GP; 29.2 minutes / game
2. Azzi Fudd - 12.1 points; 58 three pointers (.430); 3.4 RBs; 24 Asst. (1.0/g); 25 GP; 27.9 minutes / game
3. Caroline Ducharme - 9.8 points; 34 three pointers (.288); 3.2 RBs; 40 Asst. (1.3/g); 31 GP; 21.0 minutes / game
4. Aliyah Edwards - 7.9 points; 2 Three pointers (.400); 5.1 RBs; 51 Asst. (1.1/g); 36 GP; 24.9 minutes / game
5. Juhasz Dorka - 7.3 points; 15 Three pointers (.313); 5.7 RBs; 55 Asst. (1.7/g); 32 GP; 19.8 minutes / game
6. Nika Muhl - 3.8 points; 25 Three pointers (.342); 3.0 RBs; 87 Asst. (2.6/g); 33 GP; 21.7 minutes / game
7. Amari DeBerry - 1.6 points; 3 Three pointers (.214); .6 RBs; 12 Asst. (.8/g); 16 GP; 5.2 minutes / game
8. Aubrey Griffin - 6.4 points; 1 Three pointer (.100); 5.4 RBs; 33 Asst. (1.0 / g); 32 GP; 16.7 minutes / game (2019-2020 season)
9. Lou Lopz Senechal - 19.5 points; 54 Three pointers (.401); 4.6 RBs; 34 Asst. (1.0/g) ; 34 GP; 31.4 minutes / game (Fairfield U)
10. Ice Brady - 20.7 points; 12.8 RBs; 3.3 Asst / g; 2.1 blocks / g
11. Ayanna Patterson - 21.8 points; 11 RBs; 2.3 blocks / g

Points of consideration:

1. Paige missed 19 games
2. Aubrey Griffin did not play all season
3. Azzi missed 11 games
4. Ducharme picked up the slack when both Paige and Azzi were out...then saw her minutes diminish when they came back
5. Dorka's minutes were limited because of Olivia Nelson-Ododa
6. Ododa, Williams, Westbrook, Gabriel and Mir took 3075 minutes of the total 7250 minutes played
7. Not all players next year will play every game therefore point and rebound averages are on a games played average.

Projected 2022-2023 season:

Paige Bueckers - 18 points; 55 Three pointers (1.52/g); 4.0 RBs; 28 minutes
Azzi Fudd - 19.5 points; 96 Three pointers (2.67/g); 3.5 RBs; 27 minutes
Caroline Ducharme - 12 points; 43 Three pointers (1.2/g); 3.5 RBs; 22 minutes
Aliyah Edwards - 9.0 points; 3 Three pointers; 5.5 RBs; 23 minutes
Juhasz Dorka - 10.0 points; 24 Three pointers (.65/g); 6.0 RBs; 21 minutes
Nika Muhl - 5.0 points; 29 Three pointers (.8/g); 3.0 RBs; 19 minutes
Amari DeBerry - 4.0 points; 10 Three pointers; 3 RBs; 11 minutes
Aubrey Griffin - 6.0 points; 2 Three pointers; 5.0 RBs; 15 minutes
Lou Lopez Senechal - 8.0 points; 28 Three Pointers (.75/g); 2.5 RBs; 14 minutes
Ice Brady - 4.0 points; 4.0 RBs; 11 minutes
Ayanna Patterson - 3.0 points; 3.0 RBs; 9 minutes

I think this team will average about 91 points per game and about 40 Rebounds per game.

My opinion is that Dorka will get a full complement of of ONO's minutes and
thus more points than some others have predicted. Geno, I think, wants
Dorka to have a very good senior season to enhance her WNBA credentials, so.
the # 4 strong forwards will be sharing time and points will be spread among
these three: Aaliyah, Yanna, and ICE ( ICE at # 4 and # 5). My guesses are:
Paige 16 Azzi 14 Aaliyah 10 Dorka 14 Caroline 12 = the 'starters'
Nika 4 Audrey 3 Lou 3 Yanna 3 ICE 4 for a total of 83
The "second team" may get fewer minutes and points due to the challenges of
our "out of conference " schedule, bunch of challenges there!
( so much less time for anyone not in the " first team rotation " of players )

I agree with @hoophuskee that the team will probably score closer to 90/game, and precisely because all the perimeter shooting we are likely to have will open up the lane. I was being conservative. But you're both right, we have a lot of scorers on this new squad.

This is almost as much fun as who gets how many minutes....
We’re still in June, 4 months before official practice starts, and 5 months before the season begins. All any if of us can do at this point is guess. None of us has any idea on June 11 what anyone of our new players are going to do, or how long it’s going to take them to learn Geno’s system and be able to play and be productive in it.

What they did in high school means nothing at this level. They’ve only been on campus 12-13 days. Let's let them settle in and get to know their new teammates and coaches, and see how they look that first week in November. Both of our freshmen bring something to the floor the other one does not.

CT, it's going to be a long summer. Posters are going to be redundant at times. Grin and bare it. :D

I must say, I am surprised to see that many (relatively) people think Azzi will score more points than Paige. It’s very difficult for me to see any scenario where Paige does not lead this team in scoring right up until she graduates. Of course, if anyone were to score more than Paige, I’d have to agree it would almost certainly be Azzi.

I guess I could see Azzi averaging more points than Paige across the course of the season - especially in conference play. However, I don’t think Azzi can come close to Paige in scoring against top defensive teams. Paige can create and make shots when the defenses are clamping down on open shots. Azzi hasn’t shown that ability. When the chips are down, it’s Paige.

The third shot she takes in these highlights is just something I don’t think Azzi is capable of taking much less making:

I think you’re right about Paige’s ability to get her own shot independently of what the rest of the team is doing. Azzi may not be there, yet. There were moments in the loss to Villanova and the first game against Marquette where she shows it, though granted that’s not against SC.

Its actually depressing to watch these clips because they show pretty clearly that Paige knew she was on her own against SC that night. By the way, there’s no one on SC who could have done what she did there, not Henny, not Zia, not even Boston. All of them need the team to help them get shots.

But… if we can assume UConn doesn’t have the same injury problems, etc, (yikes!) Paige won’t have to do this often, Azzi will score plenty, and maybe even more than Paige on average across the season, and maybe even in the big game. You’re right that she’ll benefit from defenses having to shade off on Paige and the others so that screens work better and the lane opens up for dribble-stop jumpers and drives through the lane. But that’s how a championship team is built.

This is the first time I looked at the SC (even in highlight mode) Paige highlights. I saw that 1 on 5 play she made before since it was on every press clip but she had quite a few beautiful plays.

You do understand during the season you must post a weekly update comparing the players' actual minutes and points with all of the posters' predictions plus a season ending recap of the posters' successes and failures.
