Audi Crooks, Iowa State: 25.9 ppg, 67.1% FG, 7.7 rebounds, team is 6-5 and in 9th place

Taliah Scott, Baylor: 20.4 ppg, 40.1% FG, 2.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, team is 9-2 and in 1st place

Olivia Miles, TCU: 19.3 points, 50.8% FG, 6.9 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.9 steals, team is 9-2 and in 1st place

S'Mya Nichols, Kansas: 18.0 points, 47.9% FG, 41.4% 3pt, 4.9 assists, team is 4-8 and in 12th place

I think Miles is the runaway pick here with Iowa State losing so many games with Brown out. TCU has a tough stretch to finish it out though with 2 matchups against Baylor and they face West Virginia/Iowa State, but I'd be surprised if anyone but Miles wins it.

Coached voted Crooks pre-season play of the year and Miles as newcomer of the year so that sort of established some expectations. ISU and Crooks look to be back on track after their couple week tailspin.

Player of the Year - Audi Crooks or Olivia Miles. Miles great pts/rbs/ast #'s Crooks with scoring and so-so rebounding. Will have to see how Crooks finishes out. Miles is obviously a better player but people love Crooks and she was the early pick.

Newcomer of the Year - Olivia Miles (would be Scott otherwise)

Freshman of the Year - Jaliya Davis - This one is easy. Kansas rookie missed the first half of the season but is averaging 21 pts/gm in her 18 games back. She has by far eclipsed pre-season pick Dee Alexander (who was also injured half the season).

Coach of the year - Whoever wins 1st and is ranked the highest, usually.

Molly Miller.

Maybe, but probably not, just not the way it's worked in the Big 8/12 over the years. It's almost always the title winner. Exception to this was 2022 with Brandon Schneider so it's not impossible but ASU will need to move up more in the standings in February. They were picked for 11th and are in a three-way tie for 7th.

Texas Tech was picked for 13th and they are currently in 4th place if you want to make a case for exceeding expectations. People don't seem to respect Gerlich as much as Miller but they are way exceeding expectations unless they auger in. No one picked Tech to be ranked.

I really like Audi Crooks as a person but I'd have trouble voting for her here. When I think of a MVP I see someone who makes everyone around them better. She is so reliant on her teammates to score well that she's almost the opposite of that.

.-.
Crooks didn't help her case much last night. 18 pts and only 2 rebounds in losing at BYU in a game the Cyclones were heavily favored in.

Signs are now pointing to Olivia Miles, so that's who I'll vote for in this thread.

Last night's win by TCU over Baylor certainly put Miles back into the two person race with Crooks. Both players are having good years. Miles is ahead but I am against voting for mercenary's which is really my only "straw man" argument I can make given how well Ms. Miles has played.

Nichols isn't even the best player on her own team which is also floundering and mediocre conference. Davis is their best player as a freshman.

COY is still looking like Gerlich right now since they are keeping up and in the hunt and owning tiebreakers over Baylor, TCU and WVU. Picked for 13th place by the Big 12 coaches preseason poll and are currently tied for 2nd at 10-3 with TCU and Baylor at one game back of WVU. They own the tiebreaker over all the other three as it stands right now (they have another game with Baylor coming up).

POY is still leaning Miles after her 40 spot the other night. TCU is in the hunt and ISU and Crooks are tied for 7th with four other teams. I think ISU's losing streak without Brown and Crooks performance in those games is pushing it Miles' way also.

ROY is a runaway still for Davis and a done deal.

I think saying “ one of the worst seasons for POY” is a tad excessive especially considering the top two players will be All-Americans…either 1st or 2nd team.

With the remaining games, I think Miles has pulled out in front and will be hard to beat for the POY. From a team perspective, I am not thinking any of the Big 12 teams will reach an elite 8 unless a major upset happens as the teams are just too flawed to compete with the top 10 teams like UConn, UCLA, SC, Texas, Vandy, LSU, Duke, Louisville, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Michigan to name 11.

Assuming it's TCU that makes it thru the Big12, they will host first round games.

Home court gives them a high likelihood to make sweet 16.

They then will have to beat just 1 of those 11 teams to make last 8. They sure won't be favored, but it's one game.

Meanwhile plenty of suspense just to see who really wins the league.

I hate to see mvp awards go to one and done transfers even where the transfer is pretty clearly the best player in the conference
