The USA Basketball Women’s National Team Player Selection Committee selects 12 players for the Olympic team. Their two goals are 1) win now and 2) sustain our success in the future. History and details: Twenty-Five Athletes Named As Finalists For 2016 U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball Team - WNBA.com - Official Site of the WNBA
Chair of the Committee is Carol Callan, who has 27 years of experience selecting USA basketball teams
WNBA appointees are:
Reneé Brown, WNBA chief of basketball operations and player relations
Dan Hughes, head coach and general manager of the San Antonio Stars
Chris Sienko, vice president and general manager of the Connecticut Sun
Katie Smith, who played in nearly 200 games for USA Basketball from 1993-2008, serves as the athlete representative. Katie is a three-time Olympic and two-time FIBA World Championship gold medalist
From 25 world-class players they select 12 for the team and omit 13. Hard to imagine a more difficult job.
