For those who think an AD hire is done to impress other schools is nuts. You hire an AD to manage your schools programs. Who cares where they came from as long as they are competent, can fund raise, hire the right coaches and support them as best as possible?

CR is not done at the AD level. Tom Jurich made a nice impression, but the reality is Clemson and Fla State thought they were further ahead in terms of football. Also, TJ couldn't expand facilities at his level. The President and BOT have the pull here.

Warde did a great job of hiring coaches and getting the basketball facility done, moving hockey up to HE and getting plans for baseball, soccer and softball(all long overdue). He did not get the Michigan job because he was an alum, he got it because of his success here. And ps, he came from BUFFALO - A MAC school.

The next guy can come from anywhere as long as they tick the boxes for UCONN.

Warde... came from BUFFALO - A MAC school.

Correct. To a point. Your first two sentences are accurate. Your third sentence is accurate on its face. The problem is being an AD is all about relationships. Relationships with coaches and other ADs. Since UConn strives to be in a P5 we should care more about developing and sustaining relationships with other P5s. So having meaningful ties to P5 people is very important. It's also about relationships with big money business and donors. You're not working with those folks at Bowling Green. You're working with them if you're at Ohio State, though. So bringing someone aboard who can solicit corporate sponsorship and massage powerful egos is highly important. If that person comes from a smaller school, so be it, but it's just not as likely that without ever having worked at a big time athletic program that they would have the experience necessary.

And yes, Warde came from Buffalo- after working for 7 years in UMs AD.

Sean Frazier (current NIU AD) ticks all of my boxes:

1. academic success rate;
2. excellent fundraiser;
3. football background (played at Alabama) with a "minor" in hockey;
4. northeast guy (from Long Island)...also finalist at RU and BC;
5. Wisconsin connections - another big-time B1G ally to have in addition to our newfound friends at Michigan;
6. Jim Delany recommended him at RU;
7. pay scale match

I don't think there is a more qualified candidate, that I know of, than Frazier.

Here is another name. Beth Goetz, who is now interim AD at Minn., probably has a lot of respect among B10 officials. She may be available for another univ. if Minn doesn't put her in as permanent AD.
