Whitmer is a great QB. yes he still has to grow, but we have to understand when your constantly put on a 3rd and long situation... that adds a lot of pressure on the QB.... Any QB would have a rough game in those types of situations especially when the defense knows the play because its sooooo predictable... DeLeone constantly had McCombs who is 5'7 166lbs run up the middle and left Whitmer to handle a 3rd and long constantly, like, if we don't have big talented backs! I blame DeLeone! of course our O-Line and QB going to look bad with play calls like DeLeone's

We have seen nothing to think he is a great qb. He has 5 INT's through 2 games. I am not saying he is not going to develop, but there has been nothing to indicate he is a great qb right now. With that said, we need to give him a chance. I want to see improvement each game. Shouldn't be hard to improve from this one. Can it?

In the NC State game, he showed nothing positive. At all. 3 INT's (2 of which my section was screaming, No No No!!!! when we saw him lock on a receiver), 1 should have been INT, no pocket presence, no touch, and throwing the ball behind receivers.

He is certainly an upgrade nobody's debating that. I agree the biggest issue by far is play calling, and we win that game with a reasonable plan that excludes the wildcat. The things that get me really frustrated keep happening before the snap.

Okay maybe he's not great but has potential and again with a predictable offense and always put on a 3rd and long any QB will have an issue

How can you say the biggest issue is playcalling when our qb showed no ability to execute any play? The play calling was poor (specifically the timing of the wildcat) but there were a ton of player failures here. How can we think we could win that game? Our only big gainer was a swing to McCombs who did the work himself?

Maybe I am still steamed, but I have no idea how anyone right now can say Whitmer is an upgrade over JMac right now. He was abyssmal today. I would say there play after 2 starts is equal.

Again, might just be steamed, but what is the potential? And believe me, I am praying that he lives up to the hype. What we knew about him is that he threw too many INT's in JC. He has 5 in 2 games so far. He has shown nothing so far. Not a sweet deep throw, not hanging in the pocket, not an amazing run. Nothing. He has to step up or we are going to waste one of the Nation's best defenses. (yes, they are that good).

I am going to check out a little while because I need to calm down.

BECAUSE MAYBE THE OPPOSING DEFENSE ALREADY KNOWS WHAT OUR DUMB OFFENSE IS GOING TO DO ITS CALLED PREDICTABILITY... THE DEFENSE CAN DEFEND A PLAY THEY CAN SEE COMING! DO YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THESE THREADS AT ALL?

Do you remember how bad McEntee was last year against Vandy? He just went 15-27 for 204 yards and 3 picks. Against Vandy McEntee was 10-27 for 99 yards and 3 picks.

Whitmer is an upgrade over McEntee (how soon you all forget) but so far, it isn't a large improvement. IMO, he has better pocket presence than JMac ever did (very low bar there) and he can be pretty accurate, leading the receiver on the short stuff.

That being said, his judgment on throwing into coverage was abysmal. Two of the three INT's were balls that should never have been thrown. Both into double coverage. Given JMac is our second option, we're all going to have to take our lumps with Whitmer and hope he improves his judgment drastically.

So far he is not an upgrade on Mac

I don't know how you can say that. Granted, he played lousy today and 3 INTs are not going to cut it. But CW wasn't the biggest problem today.

If our OL played terrible today we win the game. I'm actually afraid to watch the game on DVR because I don't want to confirm what my eyes saw today.

We lost by 3, so it's reasonable to say we change a few things for the better and we win that game. Keep in mind we had probably 25 yards of plays called back and -30 on false starts, that plus the wildcat is a huge hole to start from for any QB. Jmac would have been sacked 8 times today if he is in there IMO.

That's why tomorrow I will step off the ledge. We lost 13-10 to a good team, IMO. I, like alot of us here, tend to go a little overboard right after a loss. I am going to try and relax a little (looks at bottle of vodka in frreezer)

i hear ya he needs some work but he also has to be put in the right situations to succeed and that is not happening with the play calls and him being in and out every 3 plays. i think he has great potential just need the chance. with their formations and tendencies, an opposing coach can guess what Uconn is doing every time. In my opinion, different coaching will help in Whitmer get the job done as our QB.

Just my opinion, but we need to keep throwing short with him (slants, screens, etc.). He is an upgrade in this area. His deep ball is not there yet. I would throw first to to setup the run, but its has to be 3 steps and get rid of it, until teams stop loading the box. More to TE and backs, until we can get the opposing D to backup a step. Oh, and deep 6 the Wildcat.

Not all bad. But he makes really poor decisions, and their DBs were reading him like a book.

I think the problem here with Whitmer is that everyone was anointing him as the next coming of Dan Orlovsky. He still may be but he may need another year or so as someone earlier stated in this thread (I think it was this thread). The frustrating part of the waiting is that our Defense is a Championship caliber Defense RIGHT NOW. Next year it's a different defense and a different conference conglomeration. If we have our best shot to win the Big East, it's this year and we all wanna win now!

However, we are the ones who made Whitmer out to be more than he is. I'm just as frustrated with him as everyone else and I was worried with what I saw. However, he still looked better than JMac ever did....

No we didn't. No disrespect intended to NC State, but they are not a good team. They are simply better than us. Their defense is nothing special and their offense (minus a QB with a ton of potential) is just below average. We watched our Defense put on a near virtuoso performance, but as often is the case they were left hanging.

I have to remember Whitmer is very young and today was his first taste of a real D-I defense. He is our best option and i think he will improve. I just hope we don't waste another great defense before it happens.
