As I look at this season coming up, the clear scariest teams in my mind - if their teams come together, are Houston, BYU, Texas Tech, us, and possibly St John’s.

I know a lot are high on Purdue, but I just don’t see it.

I’d probably put Purdue, Kentucky, and Duke in the next tier.

I like what pieces Louisville and Michigan picked up, but I’m not sure I see either going past the sweet 16.

Thoughts?

Houston for sure, they're losing Cryer and Roberts but I think they're bringing back mostly everyone else and adding Cenac

I want to see Dybantsa play within BYU's system before I go all in on them. Adding Rob Wright and bringing back most of their key guys is huge, but I'm going to hold off on them for now because any 5* prospect that takes the biggest NIL bag raises questions in my mind

Agreed on Texas Tech assuming Watts is the real deal at the high major level

St Johns might take a bit of time to get rolling because of all the transfers (again) but they are a STRONG squad. I'd put them near the top of the list

Not high on Purdue. I'm probably just a hater considering they were good last year, but Smith/Renn/Loyer don't move me as the core of your team with Braden as the guy. Yeah they made the S16 but got a lucky 2nd round matchup to get there

Tier 1 (in no order) - UConn, St Johns, TTU, Houston
Tier 2 - BYU, Florida, Duke, Michigan (but I'm not high on Yaxel), UCLA (very high on Donovan Dent)
Not huge on Kentucky. Arizona and Louisville just miss the cut. I'm probably forgetting some people because I've forgotten 90% of portal moves

I'm going with PC. Their mascot is scary.

St John’s. They picked up some great players in the portal. They are loaded. They have the coaching and they beat us twice last year.
And when I say coaching, I mean Talik Brown oh yeah, and some guy named Patino

I will let you know once we finish our pre-BE slugfest. Should be more telling how we did than who we fear.

I don't get the Purdue hate. If we had 2 preseason All Americans we'd be rightly saying we were the title favorite and anyone saying otherwise was a hater

Agreed overall. IMO Jacobson reintegrating with that team is going to make them dangerous and a top tier team, or not.

Preseason, the strongest look like Houston and Texas Tech. On paper, Purdue looks great, but they never seem to win the big one.
UCLA is going to surprise a lot of folks but again, winning that big game in the big dance has eluded Cronin and co.
UConn has the horses, but it will take some time to translate what goes on in the preseason to what happens under the bright lights - same with St Johns and Florida but the Johnnies will implode in the end.
This season looks like a dozen teams could be the last dancing.
