It's ironic that the 2 low major transfers might just be the team's 2 best players. Someone on here today said we can't win with those guys because they were low major players.
Some one in Chat...within the last few minutes of the end pf game wrote that Cole is a MEAC player. Yep.

Silly analysis. Stop worrying about who is contributing on the court and focus on what is important — how highly they were rated when they were in high school.

Seriously low major
Martin came from the A10 and was Hurley recruit there . He was a good get for RI. hardly low
Cole was dominant in MEAC which is lower for sure but he played for Hurley’s Dad and was a well coached kid. He also been here for three years and is a pretty mature post grad.
So either being “a find “ is a tad hyperbolic even by BY standards.

A team with a bunch of losses with one being an embarrassing lost to UMES. One of the most awful games we played to a team we should have beaten badly

rothstein on tyrese martin:

Tyrese Martin is officially UConn’s go-to guy on the wing
The questions about how the Huskies are going to replace James Bouknight on the wing offensively need to officially stop. That’s because Martin is emerging into one of the best scorers in the Big East. The 6-6 senior torched Marquette for 25 points and six rebounds in Tuesday night’s 74-67 win in Milwaukee and continues to look the part of an all-conference caliber player. Martin has scored in double figures in eight of the nine games that he’s appeared in this season and is averaging 14.4 points. Dan Hurley’s squad will next visit Xavier on Dec. 28th.

Where would any team be without their 2 best players? We would be utter shiite without them. Transfers may not always work out but these guys don't even feel like transfers because of the Hurley connections in the first place. Love them

Both were really good last night because they played within their games.

Being fully honest 2-3 of Cole's layups were somewhat lucky, throw it at the rim and see what happens. On at least one of them he was fouled so it's a free shot at the rim.

I definitely like Cole better when he's shooting 12-13 shots a game and getting 7 assists vice shooting 18-20 times and getting 3-4 assists. Of course, the flip side is when he is shooting a bunch and not getting assists it's because his teammates are shooting bricks or refusing to shoot at all. So, I get the chicken and the egg argument.

If, Martin, Cole, Jax and Akok play at 80% of what they did tonight, UConn will be a second weekend NCAA tourney team. Hurley seemed to settle on using Martin in the post to abuse Marquette's smaller guards and it worked.
I still do have concerns about Martin and Cole against high level athletic teams and trying to do too much with the dribble penetration in the halfcourt. Strike that. I have concerns about the entire team being able to get dribble penetration against more athletic and taller teams. That leaves running crisp offensive sets for the whole game. I hope that part of the UConn offense becomes better.

Imagine thinking winning games retards the program.
Cole-mid major transfer
Martin- mid major transfer
Whaley- Ollie recruit
Polly- Ollie

While Cole,Whaley and Martin are nice players they are all at the end of there college career. And are not guys who will get you past the first weekend. It is what it is they are pieces. They are not big time players. They are nice players on a team with a stud or two. Maybe to Hurley they are better than pretty much anyone he has had but we are not at URI in the A10....

In hindsight they should have all been let go and solidified the future by bringing in young guys and letting them learn on the way. These 4 guys are band aides. They will win enough games to make it interesting but in the big picture retarding the program as temporary fixes. Hurley is running with this plan because he fears a young inexperienced team will loose a bunch of games and he is too competitive to deal with that. Also he is worried the fan base will freak and be calling for his head.

Cole and Martin are two of our best transfers. Having them score their 2000th and 1000th points on the same night was very cool. Hard to think of other transfers that have had more impact. Fun to think back on the contributions of Kromah and Shonn Miller though.
