OT: - Where were you when Tate George hit “the shot”? | The Boneyard

OT: Where were you when Tate George hit “the shot”?

The den in our first house in Fairfield. Was sitting in a recliner slumped back in shock and depression after Clemson took the lead. As Burrell got the ball to throw it in I started sitting up more. As the pass was in the air I was slowly leaning forward. When it was clear that, somehow, Tate got off a clean catch and shot I was on the edge of the seat. When it went in I jumped and threw my hands in the air and smashed into a light fixture, cutting my hand. Made up some excuse my wife didn’t believe the next morning as to where the cut came from.

At the game. In the student section.

As students, we had to take the bus from Storrs and we had to wait until the Duke/UCLA game ended before the bus left NJ. So, it was very late when we got back to campus and all the partying was pretty much over.

I was also there on Saturday for the Duke game.

Watching as a teen in the family room with my parents. I was so upset, I went to turn the tv off when the loss looked inevitable. I was destroyed. My mother said, “No, no they might make it”. I proceeded to explain that it was basically impossible. When the game resumed, we went nuts. We still talk about the lesson I learned that day about not being a quitter. I would have missed out on one of the greatest moments of my life.

Student section behind the basket. Just like being in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium and you think a routine fly ball is coming into the stands and then it falls into the outfielder's glove, I was devasted that Scotty overthrew it and it was coming into our seats.

And then it fell into Tate's hands. I think we ran onto the court, but I can't remember.

Behind the basket in the student section at The Meadowlands! My roommate and I won the student ticket lottery they had in the field house. It was the best night ever! Was such a blast riding the bus back to campus, I remember ‘that’s what I like about UConn’ playing over and over. Needless to say - the ride back two nights later was torture - after freaking Puke and Laettner ruined it. Great memory!

In my car in a parking lot listening on the radio because the game wasn’t televised. Went running inside all excited, only to find that CBS (or whoever) switched to the UConn game for the last few minutes, and I missed it.

People forget how we almost choked the game away. That shot prevented that. That was what I thought watching it back then.

I was a grad student. Seminar ended in time for me to make it from Monteith to Ted’s for the second half. After the shot, everyone obviously went wild. After a minute I looked up and half of the tiles from that low drop ceiling had been punched out by accident by people jumping up and down, pumping their fists in celebration.

22 rows up directly behind Scotty Burrell sitting with a crap load of Clemson fans who were standing with their back to the play screaming at me words I cannot repeat - yes I was somewhat enthusiastic in my cheering but back to the play I watched it unfold and they didn't and when I threw my arms up they all turned and had to watch on replay complaining the entire time that time had run out - yeeeee haaaa

11 years old, in my living room watching with my mom, dad and sister. We won't talk about the next game.
I think I was in the same place both games but I am far more certain on the latter (but we can discuss that while awaiting the rematch this weekend).

I was in my apartment in Maryland. Back then you only got to see the game the local CBS affiliate chose to carry, which was not the UConn game. That is, until it got close. They cut to the game just as Clemson took the lead. Was just me and a friend watching and I started cursing since they cut to the game just as UConn started losing. My friend said "they still have a second left, anything can happen". I replied "Shut up, no way they are gonna get a basket with just one second left". I was glad to be wrong in that moment. I was filled with glee the rest of the night.

Last row of the upper deck in the corner that Burrell threw the in bounds pass from. My grandmother had Nets season tickets and one of the perks is we got the opportunity to buy tickets to the east regional every year back when it was in the meadowlands most of the time.

With everyone standing up, I couldn’t actually see Tate catch and shoot it, I just saw the ball come down and then go back up and my dad gasped as it was heading in.

Walking the streets of Troy NY so I wouldn’t cave in a guys head who was hounding me about the Clemson lead and Connecticut choking. I was 3 seconds away from an assault charge so I walked out. I missed the shot live and saw replays then told the dude to f himself about 60 times. No punches thrown.

Exactly the same as these 2. Great time to be a student. Thanks for bringing back those memories.
