Where is Jana ?

Can she travel to away games? This topic did come up a while back and I think Nan...and other avid recruiting fans...
found that the NCAA was OK with travel...it was up to each team to make the call. There will be plenty of great
atmospheres...home and away...before this season ends. Just watching this game on TV was plenty exciting...Go
Jana...Go Huskies!

She can practice and travel with the team. By now, the rest of the team has the rhythm down of in person/remote classes, study hall, travel, etc. Probably better for her to get up to speed with coursework, as the remainder of the season won't be easy for them.

Home games in bold - Villanova, Providence, SC, Marquette, G'town, Creighton, Nova, St J, DePaul, Xavier

@Carnac, those months will not fly by. Sometime in early May we will have severe withdrawal symptoms. Happens every year and seems to last forever. The "who starts" and "who gets what minutes" threads make it worse. :)
You’re right. I was being facetious. Bad Carnac. Heh heh heh.

You know that already? The issue was why she wasn’t with the team
I have to assume she isn't with the team because she started the semester late and is behind in her classes. Perfect time to catch up when she knows she isn't participating.

Geno said she is on the team. She has all the rights and privileges of the other players. He said she can practice and travel with the team. He said the only thing she won’t do is play in any games this season. He was very clear on that.

If I was here, I would not only be in classes but the weight room. Seems like there are more and more physical players coming into women's basketball.

Although she can sit on the bench during home games, I believe that I read that because of her current status NCAA rules do not permit her to travel with the team for away games. Maybe one of the rules gurus can quote chapter and verse. It’s too bad she could not experience the environment of the.arena filled with 24000+ screaming fans.
That is not correct. She is allowed to travel with the team, and she is allowed to sit on the bench during games.

Freshman year is by far the hardest of the four years for most students, she being no exception. It gets easier each year after that. You know that. She has to learn many things about everyday college life, time management, priorities. She has to develop a daily routine so that some of what she's expected to do makes sense. All the other players have a routine and their ducks in order, Jana does not. She just got here. She probably is not completely unpacked yet.

She's in a totally new environment and adapting to a completely different lifestyle. Right now she has more important things on her plate than attending a road game, no matter how BIG it is. Keep the main thing the main thing. The good news is we will see Jana suit up and play later THIS year in November, ten short months from now. Those months will fly by, and November will be here before you know it.
Post edit............classroom instruction at UConn resumed on Tuesday January 17 for the spring semester. Jana arrived on campus on Sunday Jan 22, and attended her first class on Monday Jan 23. That means she was already 4 days BEHIND in all of her classes. If she's enrolled in 3-5 classes, she has to make up whatever she missed those 4 days for each class. When freshmen come in for the first time, they have 2 months (60+ days) to get settled, get a routine going, learn time management and get comfortable in their new surroundings BEFORE the season begins in early November. Tuesday was Jana's 5th day on campus. She had other things and responsibilities to handle that were more important than going on a road trip...........any road trip. :)

You are 100% correct!!! Geno said so in one of his recent interviews. He specifically address that. Sometimes it pays to listen to Geno's interviews. You learn things.

She’s also allowed to play. Whether she does will be up to a lot of people, but no one from the BY.

thanks for the attendance number = that is a BIG arena!
Prior to NCAA tournament play, it was one of the largest crowds UConn will play in front if this year.

Classes don’t meet every day. Most freshman classes follow a MWF or TTH schedule, so at most, she missed two days of instruction.

The first day of class is usually going over the syllabus, course expectations, etc., which she would be able to get from meeting with the instructor or TA.

While ideally students should be in class the first week, there are many reasons why they aren’t so instructors adapt for that.

The biggest issues for Jana are 1) she just got here from Egypt, 2) she’s in a very different culture (as most international students are), and 3) she’s been home schooled. So, lots to adjust to as Carnac noted.

As a side note, I’m glad she didn’t travel with the team. So much is new for her, and nobody else is going through the same newness with her.
