At the moment, I second that assessment. As for racking up assists, Newton has a lot more scoring weapons around him than any PG we've ever had. Last season he had teammates around him that could knock down 3s ( Hawkins, Karaban, Joey Cal) and this season (Karaban, Spencer and some other capable shooters). As for high percentage paint scorers, Sanogo, Cingan, Johnson & Karaban who has been scoring at and near the rim lately. As for scoring, he keeps on improving both beyond the arc and in the paint. He's looking every bit as good a scorer as the 3 you mentioned (Khalid, Kemba & Shabazz). Newton is an excellent rebounder and a lot taller that the those 3, though Kemba was an exceptional rebounder for his size. I think Bazz was a solid rebounder, though I don't recall Khalid pulling down many. Ricky Moore could be in this conversation. He was a hell of a defender, good at attacking the rim, but not a good 3 point shooter. He lost a season due to an injury if I'm not mistaken and had to build his game back up. (Edited, I looked up his stats and he seemed to play a lot of games all four years, but I think he injured his knee at the end of one of his seasons and played little and poorly on a bad knee in an NCAA loss. I think his scoring was impacted after that injury where his scoring numbers went down his Junior and Senior seasons.) Newton has a chance to be the best all around PG/CG we've ever had.
