Kind of a pointless thread but thought this could be fun to see what everyone thinks. Assuming UCONN stays put in the AAC for a while, when do you think UCONN will lose a game?

I don't see anyone in this conference touching UCONN for at least the next 5 years, as UCONN has the top class coming in next year, Dangerfield in 2016, EH in 2017 and rumor has it Walker wants to play for Geno. Since UCONN has switched to the AAC, no one in the current conference has come within 25 of Connecticut. If UCONN doesn't get switched to a different conference for 5-10 years. All the other programs are mid majors, with USF being arguably a major conference team. I think UCONN could set some ridiculous records for conference winning streak, as there isn't a team remotely in the same class as Connecticut or most other top 25 teams. My vote is 10+ years provided Geno coaches that long or passes off his program to CD.

Sometime after Stewie leaves. Maybe after Lou leaves. Unless the Lynx move into the AAC.

10 years after Geno retirement. No honestly UConn has to get out of this confrence, but does it matter we normally beat any team we play. #LoveBeingAHuskieFan.
If ACC is the best and we been beating teams in that conference by almost 30 points which conference is good for us?? WNBA East??

While I'm not really a fan of this conference and its anti-competitiveness, whether we play a steady diet of Temple, Tulsa, and SMU or Duke, UNC, and ND does not really seem to matter. Does anyone really consider the games we play against ACC, SEC, and B1G that much more competitive than our current conference games? We're talking about teams losing by 20 instead of by 50. That Duke game a few weeks back could have been a 40 point loss, and we've seen UConn hand UNC a 50+ point loss in the not so distant past.

I believe the difference is this.

If Geno was a mean man, he could give 33+ minutes to his starters to pad their stats and tighten the rotation and substitution patterns against AAC competition and win games in the 60-70+ range. Absolutely no contest from wire to wire on any level.

Against teams from the P5 that have similar athletic ability, similar size and a collection of high schools All-Americans along with an assortment of other top rated high school players, the games are far more competitive even if the final score is in the 30+ range. Did UConn not already lose to Stanford this year???

In the former Big East, there were multiple teams that managed to edge out some wins over the years, including that run of thrillers against ND and although the current AAC teams "might" be able to upgrade, let's face it, they are so bad in real time, that Geno will probably be long retired before one of these teams not just WINS a game, but can actually provide a relatively competitive game.

When South Florida is the only hope for a sliver of competitiveness hopefully for at least the opening 20, the league is the definition of "creampuff".

I thought the ACC was the "All Cup Cakes" league. You know, a conference of games that are close and exciting, could just mean it's a collection of fairly even but mediocre teams. Parity doesn't imply a level of talent or play, just the equality of it.

Men's basketball in the AAC seems to be much more competitive.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but in the preseason thread that similarly asked whether any team would stay within 20 points of UConn this year, the almost unanimous opinion was, "No way." You can go back and look. Even though a half dozen teams stayed within 20 of UConn's unbeaten team with Hartley and Dolson, the consensus was that this year's less experienced team would somehow blow out every other team by more than 20 from the get go.

I get the enthusiasm, but fans need to give other teams their due and recognize that on any given night, if the ball's bouncing off the rim too much for UConn, a good team at home can be very dangerous. If you need to see where overwhelming hubris gets you, go back to the BY threads just before February 18, 2012 when an expected 30+ point rout of an 8-loss St. John's team at home turned into a 1 point loss, one that was a little reminiscent of this year's Stanford game though it was not an OT game on the road.

Much as everyone wants to deride the other teams in the AAC, a USF team has now moved up into the top 20 in Sagarin (20) and Massey (16) and has wins this year over teams that beat the two UT's (Tennessee and Texas), can be dangerous even now, and brain-dead RPI even predicts they'll win that game. Further down the the road in the years ahead, a team like top 40 Tulane or an ECU that is getting a big attendance boost might start to get within range of pulling that unlikely upset on a Husky off night.

Geno doesn't get all too upset about those regular season turkeys, often using them as a learning exercise. That team that lost at home to St. John's was still an FF team, so it's not the end of the world to fall on your face once in a while during the regular season. But gorging on hubris can leave you feeling a little empty at times.

I agree that these easy games are good to use as teaching moments, and I do like seeing lots of PT for the bench hoping that one day the light will come on for them. I'm hoping our freshmen look a lot better as sophomores than other teams sophomores because ours get so much game experience now. It also helps for recruiting since you can come to UConn and still get plenty of time in the games, and not just sit on the bench as had been suggested by some other coaches. As far as 'gorging on hubris,' I have no money riding on these games and no kids on the team. I can bet the house and gorge all day long because I have nothing to lose.

A look back on Florida State's first loss, after football dominance in the ACC in the early nineties. They are back now, but they have had some rough patches. This article addresses the impact of the first loss. FSU, down four, had a final play at the goal line which fell short. A cautionary tale about a breakthrough win that occurred, notably, in 1995.

The pigs flew once this season already in the face of the rosy projections of late October about no team being near UConn this year. I certainly hope no one will give cockhrnleghrn any more ammo to work with, as he's already promised to "revisit" some of those old posts in case UConn doesn't blow out the GCs by 25 or a quintet of Huskies do not each grab double-digit rebounds.

Hopefully the machine is now in smooth running order and the Huskies' winning destiny is set for years to come, but just as the Cardinal fans had a good laugh over some of those long ago comments, I'm guessing the USF fans will have a field day with Air Pork if the Huskies ever have a stumble in Tampa. The Mojo gods can get nasty.

Although the team sometimes appears to be back to "unbeatable dominance", I think they're a long ways from "cruise control" and have a lot of getting better to do before tournament time. We may or may not be in a class of our own. The pollsters say we're not. We'll find out soon enough. But this board is already on its way back up to the "195-0" confidence level, which is just unrealistic.

Is your point the overall level of talent in the ACC isn't measureably better than the AAC, sans UConn???

They aren't playing anybody who tests them. This could be very bad down the road...

A future newspaper article begins" "The UConn Nation is really from the strangest loss in the program's history; a loss precipitated by Geno having only 4 players well enough to play after 7 players succumbed to acute food poisoning which was traced to the chicken pot pie they selected as their in flight meal. Geno wryly observed in his post game conference: "We are instituting a brown bags only travel regime as of tonight!"
