Or even shot a few in the gym/playground/backyard ?

For me.... last pick-up game I played was probably 1998 or 1999. The Girl I was trying to impress (she was from Connecticut) wanted us to go to one of the rec centers and shoot some ball. Called my best buddy to come along....... ended up playing some cross court ball... cant remember if it was 5 on 5, or 4 or 4....... I do remember being awfully awfully winded after a few minutes.... Havent played since..... dont really want to end up at the local hospital with a torn achilles or worse...

The gym I belong to, actually has a basketball court in it. Last year some time... or perhaps it was 2012 (my memory aint the best) I figured i'd pick up a basketball and shoot a little. Not sure if they have raised the baskets in 20 years.. or simply that I've lost some height..... but I cant remember those baskets being that high. Took a few 3-pts shots... resulted in a few airballs.......... after that... I decided that I'd better stick to watching bball on TV.

I still play quite a lot…put up a half hour or so of shots, run around shooting layups, too hot in the jungle where I am now
But the Playground on Hudson St in the Village or the schoolyard in St Johnsbury suits.

My wife likes to play as well…She's in her early 60's, I'm going to be 75.

When some of the older guys wander by (45+), we play some half-court.

In the winter of 2012-2013 I got hit with a condition which has left me nearly blind. I'll never play again, it's hard to even follow a game any more. Before that I had been going to a gym where I used to shoot regularly, but I never played, the guys who played were all younger than me by a number of decades. The last thing I did anything like playing was about 4 years ago, D-ing up on my buddy shooting in his driveway where he'd just put in a hoop for his daughter. Did that for about half an hour, felt great, if a bit winded.

Played a little half court with some other grad students a year or two ago, but the group I ended up joining prefers playing volleyball.

Special Olympics tournament a few months ago. I have a hoop at home but I haven't gone out and shot baskets in a few months.

That's what's up. Wow. You guys are my heroes. Still hooping at such a young age. That is awesome. Keep up the great work.

I just played a game yesterday for two hours. I am 45 years old and I hoop 4-5 times a week. Most of the time it is 3 v 3 in the half-court set. If I can not get a game going at the local courts, I usually head over to the YMCA for a game. But I hoop 4-5 times a week.

about 8yrs for me... playing with some young teen boys, they were fancy but I beat them with my IQ.

Im not near a court enough to give hoop a try again... my previous job (8yrs ago) was at a YMCA (Downtown Hartford).

its a good workout with some 10-13yr old but dealing with older teens I wouldn't have a chance these days.

I tried the foul shot game at the Final Four and missed left by six feet on all three shots. Before that it has been about 25 years.

About 15 years ago my wife asked if I could make a three point shot. We were at the local Berkeley Y, I shot, made it, nothing but net, and haven't touched a basketball since.

Five years ago until I blew my quad. I can't trust the leg any more even in old geezers ball.

At this point, I only play with my sons (Senior and Freshman in HS) in pick up games at a local park. My vertical has left me and I have trouble getting a shot off against anything resembling decent defense. Fortunately, my oldest is 6'7" and can shoot so my best strategy would be to pass the ball anyway.

It's been a while. Jimmy Naismith and I were hanging out at the Springfield Drug Store ice cream counter and he was talking about finding something different than a banana split. His buddy, Erasmus Allman overheard us talking and said, "Eat a peach." It was like a light went off in Jimmy's head and we went out to the barn with some nails and a peach basket …..

I have not played an actual game of basketball for more than awhile. I shoot with my sons and grandsons at their respective homes. Actually, I prefer swimming in the water and retrieving whiffle balls(home runs "into") at our Lakehouse in the Berkshires. Time marches on. Playing field seen below.

I used to quit work every afternoon at 4 p.m. (I work for myself, so I can do that) and go to the West Side Y in New York and play pickup basketball. I still remember the last day I played: Sunday, March 23, 1980. My son was born the next day, and I suddenly had new pressures and interests in my life. I miss the old days of playing basketball, but raising a son was the most wonderful experience of my life.

May 8, 1970. It was Game 7 of the NBA championship. I was seriously hobbled, but I walked back on the court to explosive delight of the fans at Madison Square Garden. Oh yes, we won the championship that game, not to mention another one in 1973.

Okay, time to wax nostalgic. I have played a lot of sports in my time, including hockey at UConn, and running a three hour marathon at age 31. But I played everything very competitively. so, basketball was the first sport I had to give up. I think I was 35, went to the local high gym on open gym night, ended up playing with the high school kids. I could not keep up, so decided to give it up. However, played softball until my mid-fifties, on some very good teams. Now at 67, I do agility with my dogs, where we run around a course together doing different obstacles. ( I don't do the obstacles, my dog does.) For sixty seconds, I get to pretend that I am still an athlete. If the runs took 2 minutes, I would be in trouble.

ETA: I never had the pleasure of playing basketball against or with a girl/female/woman. (Choose whichever term is politically correct.) I guess that makes me really old.

Man last time I played pickup was quite a few years ago, probably early 40's?? (52 now) Running, trying to jump, on hardwood just killed my plantar fasciitas. I can run somewhat on grass, if I'm wearing some arch support orthopedics type things. But nothing on hard surface any more. :( Can't do anymore stopping or cutting either, knees and ankles will just give out. Straight lines or slow curves I'm ok....somewhat.
