What's different now compared to the last three head coaches? The transfer portal. Mora has pro head coaching experience, but more importantly, he is willing to use the transfer portal as aggressively as possible. Edsall was not. NIL money helps, but the big boys will always be able to attract more of that.

Adaptation. Mora has shown he can consider it. We've had games we were behind at halftime, and in the second half the team was able to gut out a win. Yes the portal helps to bring in players, and Mora has embraced that, but I think the change we are seeing is more a reflection of Mora wanting to build a complete team. Save for the Maryland game, this team was competitive and within striking distance to win all other games up to this point.

1) Mora is a better coach in every sense. Better Xs and Os, better judge of talent, both of players and staff, harder worker, and still had a passion to win.

2) Mora called out funding and got NIL dollars, which be allows us to compete for portal players.

3) The meltdown of college athletics as we know it, which now has de facto free agency (transfer rules plus NIL rules) Emmert completely screwed the pooch by punting on these issues but the fact of de facto free agency allows us to climb from the bottom faster than we would otherwise be able to.

So some of it is circumstance but it mostly is having a competent coach who still has a passion to win.
