I'm sure it came up in the conversation, it's probably being tossed around, scheduling in football is not easy, they might not have that much flexibility, we'll see.

We should get a football/bball deal with Kansas or Kentucky as we are basketball power who are ...not football power brethren.

Ya I think its been since 1991.... there is zero chance they do a 1+1, I don't even know if they have done a neutral site game in that time

Then take a single game at Florida. Honestly, if prople want this program to be like Boise St, you gotta take the "play anyone anywhere, anytime" philosophy. You wanna get noticed, you go to the big boys and win. Boise has done it and none of thosr big teams ever went to Boise. We gotta accept reality here.

Who isn't accepting reality? I never said I wouldn't want UConn to take a single game, just that getting Florida to play out of state would be unprecedented.

I guess they don't have a high concentration of grads elsewhere? Or they don't care. You would think that they would want to do so every now and then just to give grads in NY/Chicago/LA or wherever a chance to see them.

I think Florida last played north of the M-D line when they when up to the dome many years ago. They're not coming to CT.

I wouldn't expect them to come up here unless it was a game at the Meadowlands against someone.

However unlikely, go back and check how often Michigan goes away from home for an ooc game. My guess would be that it is a similar situation. But like someone else said if they won't come to the Rent, offer setting up a neutral site, if still no get a one and done, just get the game on the schedule. The Kentuckies, Kansas', and Vanderbilts are fine, but the big names in football are needed to raise our profile. They may not be flexible but we should be.

I wouldn't mind simply having scheduled one road game against a big name like Florida in football. I wouldn't want many heavy hitters like that in every year's schedule (because I don't like being 5-7), but I think that a program like ours wants to give ourselves a couple of opportunities to get that "name-making" punch in. Opportunities like beating ND in South Bend or beating South Carolina in Birmingham. Those types of games have already made us a much better name than the Temples and Marshalls of the world. We need a couple more to move up to the next level...

With the conference being what it is and the change to th access to the big bowls and playoffs, I think our ooc schedule needs to go from 1 big conf, 2 mid major, 1 1aa games to 2 big conf (1 big name minimum), 1 mid major 1 1aa (or get rid of the 1aa for a second mid major)

Agreed. I think I was just commenting on not setting up 3 to 4 heavy hitters per year OOC. In other words, I'm not sure I want an OOC schedule that looks like Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Penn State. At least not for the next three or four years. Build ourselves up first, and then we can have schedules like that when we join the B1G... ;)

Florida due to their obligations with FSU, Miami, and Georgia is basically impossible, but the notion of playing SEC, B1G, ACC, B12, and Pac teams regularly, with 1 heavy hitter and 2 middling teams annually, is a good one.

I am sorry but I have to ask. Do you really think that the UConn Woman's hoop team playing Florida, or any major team is going to have an impact on whether the football team gets a return visit in football? I understand that UConn is the standard bearer when it comes to woman's hoops but no way it is going to influence football scheduling.

Hank, follow the whole thread first and then comment. If you did, you would find that it wasn't only a return visit that was being SUGGESTED. And much like our football program their WBB program is anything but stellar, so while a realist like yourself may think it doesn't hold ANY weight I choose to believe if offered correctly as an entire package deal, it may hold more than you think, and just maybe it might be enough to sweeten the pot to get a one and done, god willing, a one and one or two and one deal for the football program.

I did read the whole thread! I understand the conversation changed to trying to get a one off game at Florida. However the thread began, by you, suggesting that UConn could leverage their woman's hoop team to get a return game from Florida in football. Were you serious? Do you really believe that a trip by the UConn Woman to Florida would even be close to swaying a football team like Florida to make a return trip to UConn?

It's really not going to matter what I say to you, you will have your opinion and believe it's gospel but, I started the thread and said... "It would be nice if Warde can keep the scheduling momentum going by parlaying the mens BB game that was just announced with Florida to a home and home for the football team, hell throw in the WB team if you have to just make it happen!" somehow you take that as I was saying that the WBB game was what would decide if we could get a game with them in FB, it actually starts by saying use the MBB game to try to negotiate a home and home and if need be throw in the WBB but just make it happen. Another poster pointed out their scheduling difficulties, so then came the neutral or one and done idea, it's called an evolution of a conversation, see how that works. And again whatever they have to do to get the game, they want us to be one of their "cupcake" games as the linked article claims? So be it, just get the damn game, we'll see if we're a cupcake when the time comes, but either way whatever he has to do just get the game or heaven forbid games but that seems less likely with the info about their scheduling issues. How many other opportunities does a program like ours even have to get a team like their to sit down and talk I'm sure he brought it up, but you use whatever you can to your benefit, even if it doesn't agree with your infinite wisdom.

Jerry I fully followed the thread. I understand the evolution of a conversation. I got all of that. What you do not seem to notice is the question that I asked. Did you really think that a Woman's basketball game could sway a team like Florida to provide a return game to UConn in football? Simple question, almost a yes or no answer.

Hank may be a jerk, but I think Florida would be more swayed by us throwing in a few of Warde Manuel's snicker bars than they would be a home and home in women's basketball.
