I looked at last year's recruiting class. It's listed below.

http://connecticut.scout.com/a.z?s=342&p=9&c=8&yr=2012

We did a very good job solidifying the lines and took some good young linebackers. Cochran will push Whitmer. Will we see Sylva in January. Sorry if status posted.

Receivers. We lose Smith and Williams. Tebucky left so we will definitely see new Receivers. Neally Cunningham status - sorry if it's already posted. Gutierrez and Green will have to step up.

TE will be hard to fill - Shortell Krill the two JUCO's will have to fill in.

RB Joe Williams - hopefully we did not burn his Red Shirt. he and Delorenzo will push for playing time.

DBacks We took 3 listed as Safety (2) 3-star kids and a CB. We have enough kids. Coaches will have to mix and match to get the right combinations on the field.

Feel free to fill in the holes.

More info would be in Recruiting forum but Scout didn't update - Rennick Bryan and Jason Sylva are @ Dean Junior College. Won't see until 2014.

Joe Williams redshirt was burned well before Big East play began...

-sylva is 2014 and now will be a battle with bc(brown) or others. he blew up in juco as we knew we had a player last year under radar for how good he was. i think brown at bc will go hard after him but many b10 programs will also.
-bryan is at dean for 2014 and wants to go to uconn but for some reason we are afriad to let kids verbal then send grades in time so hes just sitting up there without a sense of support from uconn or a commitment. stupid recruiting strategy by us. i'm pissed about how downhill we have one with na few dean kids. real pissed.
-gutz is a player, he will get time i think as the #3 next year with some 1 else getting time in the slot, possibly brandley and even mccombs a bit. neally went to jc out west in like nm or zona. we wont land him back imho at this point.
-shortell i have no faith in and krill decommitted.
-we burned williamd rs and word is hes a player but pp as usual does something stupid. hopefully he tuens into a good rb for the next coach we have and pp doesn't piss him off to the poitn where he transfers with his rs still possible
-cb's will be young but we have some kids we are stocking quietly as db's. wilbert comes to mind and then moving some 1 else over as needed.

I remember being very pissed off seeing Joe Williams on the field against Temple. Did he play before the Temple game? 3 carries for 5 yards or something like that. What a waste of a redshirt. One of many Pasqualoni gaffs on the season.

Has anyone confirmed Krill decommitted? Rivals delisted him, but even the UConn Rivals staff was surprised and thought it was a mistake.

If Williams is a player that means he should have been able to help what little running game we had this past season. So we burned his red shirt for a few carries in one game? That's coaching malpractice. Honestly, I hope those are not the facts. But, if they are, these guys are completely incompetent.

HFD - you keep saying this "-bryan is at dean for 2014 and wants to go to uconn but for some reason we are afriad to let kids verbal then send grades in time so hes just sitting up there without a sense of support from uconn or a commitment." I don't believe that to be the case - he committed to UConn, enrolled and attended summer camp, got good reviews from the coaches and then had the alledged grade issue and ended up @ DJC. He has publicly said multiple times he's commited to UConn. I've never seen where he DC'd? He visits and remains in contact with UConn. Not sure what more do you want/need? Edit - Meant to add, February 2014 is a long way away and anything can happen but they seem to be all over this one.

Our D Line played very well this year losing both Jennings and Joseph. Myers is over 300 lbs. already. You have Battles, Norris and Knapp - the big Dane. On the OL side Levy, Samra and Rugg and Bockeloh will push for time and we have a good core coming back with plenty of experience.

Will be interested if either Claxx or Vinci ends up to be a Fullback.

Williams was on the field in other roles both before and after the Temple game, I believe. I think he played on punt and kick teams. Not sure about every game, but at least a few times. I don't completely agree with it, but I have heard coaches say that using a kid on specials is a good way to get him acclimated to a higher level of football. Much better than redshirting for certain players, especially receivers, running backs and defensive backs. Again, I don't necessarily buy the argument but I have heard it from some pretty competent people so I respect it.

Krill's a twitter guy so I'm guessing Dan's info is good regardless of what you see on recruiting sites...

Who cares, we have had two very nice recruiting classes. If he is afraid to play against Michigan next year then he can go elsewhere. We can win without him.

Rich, we aren't beating Michigan. We can't beat Western Michigan, and you want to beat Michigan? Next year is going to be a disaster. Another step back in our quest for a new conference. Hooray Warde Manuel!

Every year is different. If I thought we couldn't beat Michigan I would stay home. I'm going.

BTW, you're not being realist you're being negative.

Every year is different, you're right. Next year will be even worse. We can revisit this conversation next December if you like.

Sorry. Tired of the Fiscal Cliff. Tired of all the negativity on the board. Tired of whining about not being invited to some conference. Some decomit. Some coach left. Can't beat this one or that one. Everything is a disaster.

But, hey the spring game is around the corner. This is real stuff. We have players who have been red shirted for the most part. It's now P's ball game. Let's see what happens. It's a new year and a new season so time for some optimism.

I'm taking a "Wait and see how much worse it can get" approach. I saw a Baylor Team yesterday that looked 1000x better than the one we beat with RG3. All over the place mediocre bowl teams look like they can beat us just because they can score 17+ points a game. As soft as UCLA and Duke are they probably win just by scoring 20 points. Baylor, forget it. And lets see who stays on board with this staff. I love tough players like Whitmer and want to believe he can carry the team but it doesn't look good under the current regime.

I like your post but, right now, with all the secretive stuff going on ( recruiting to finish out this class along with the replacement of assistant coaches ) how can you be optomistic about what UCONN football is doing? We don't even get an inkling of where we could be looking to fill coaching spots ( not even a speculation.. better than nothing... ) makes you wonder about our identity as an FBS program....

I'm optimistic in the sense that next season will either be a significant improvement or it will be the final year of the Pasqualoni regime. And since I don't think our recruiting under Pasqualoni has been that bad, this isn't going ot be one of those situations where a new coach needs 3-4 years to rebuild. We won't be in a situation like Syracuse or Louisville after their disaster head coaches. He should be able to turn the corner pretty quickly. The thing about Pasqualoni is that his teams haven't been awful. They look to have the personnel to have better results. they just don't seem to take advantage of what they have.
