Stewart was obviously injured, obviously was slower and ginger on the ankle, and obviously wasn't producing as effectively on the offensive end. They used that shot that she took from the corner as their justification: "She looks fine to me." Yeah? Because they showed it again, and for a player with normally ridiculous elevation, she doesn't get much more than six inches off the ground on that shot.

Stewie played outstanding tonight and she showed exactly the kind of upperclassman leadership that we needed by not forcing things when she was having a hard time creating, playing conservative, effective defense, and killing it on the boards. To pretend that she just decided that we didn't need her offense (like Rebecca did) when we really, really did because we were having one of our roughest offensive games of the season doesn't do the phenomenal effort that put together justice.

The major snapfu from the announcers was when they said that Stewie and KML had three championships...well...so, did Moriah and Stokes and to a certain extent the argument can be made for Tuck too!!!

My complaint was repeatedly saying this was ND 5th final four in a row while not mentioning it was our 8th.

Excellent post. Anybody that has ever played basketball knows what it is to play on a turned ankle.

I have tweaked my right ankle 2 million times and compound fractured my left. To this day, my right is far more problematic as there are a couple chips floating around that I'm too chicken to have removed, but even with that, I was still able to play in a few hockey, basketball and softball leagues...........including the usual sandlot football.

The main problem is, right after a tweak of the ankle, even if the roll isn't too bad, cutting is often very painfull. Running in a straight line isn't too bad, but severe cuts, like one makes on the offensive end, is difficult.

I have no idea if this was an issue with Stewart, but it is not out of the question.

Stewie was jumping fine and landing did not seem to cause her excessive pain.

How about Espn's constant need to rehash the past over and over and over again ! And normally, I think Doris does a nice job with nba games, but babbles w/wcbb games. I just don't get it.

IMO - some of the issues noted are legitimate criticisms, where the announcers had different take always on events. But it's really hard for me to understand real hard criticism of Doris & Dave and the ESPN booth. Great voices & insights. They admire and respect our program. And they are not shills when they see fouls/calls the other way. I love them all!

I thought Stewie's ankle injury hampered her lateral movement, especially on defense.

With 7:57 left in the game after Irish called for a foul for grabbing Stewie's arm on rebound, Dave's comment is" it's starting to get physical here ". Really Dave? What game have you been watching ?

Oh c'mon, some of the stuff was just standard sports cliches that get blurted out and that we can make fun of, but I'll tell you as one who has been in the booth, try going 40+ minutes without something overly excited and trite coming out before lambasting the announcers over the small stuff. Tough to do. What gets me is when the announcers don't do their homework, get players and teams mixed up, and talk about their breakfasts, which wasn't the case last night. Hey, some announcers even become famous for their "It's out of here" cliches that we come to expect from them.

But the "They didn't need her offense" remark did seem a little off in a pretty tight game, though clearly what was really meant was the simple "They won without a huge offensive contribution from Stewart," which was true. She just concentrated on what she could do well with the ankle situation, and didn't want to do anything in the paint that migt make it a lot worse.

ALWAYS mute the TV and listen to WTIC. Do this with both ESPN and SNY. Bob Joyce and Debbie Fiske are much more knowledgeable about the game and, in particular, the game of basketball. No angst whatsoever listening to them. Just have to adjust to the several seconds of delay between the TV and radio transmission but well worth it.
