So I think their offense isn’t good enough to move the ball consistently against our defense, especially at the Rent. Avoid giving up the huge play or a return TD and we hold them under 20. Their defense is pretty good however. I don’t think it’s good enough to shut down the run playing us straight up, but if they overload the box, don’t double cover Bell on everything and their star LB has a good day, maybe they can contain us. Can Evers shred them through the air if they overplay the run? I have no clue. If he can, we win easily. If he can’t,, we can still beat them in a low scoring grind it out affair, but that will require not losing the turnover battle, making your FG attempts and when you have a chance for a TD getting it done and not settling for three.

I would prefer less running by Evers today. I think there will be opportunities to make pass plays downfield. Hitting them would go a long way toward a W.

1. A win. I think last week brought some hope and us fans would like to see some momentum, but today a win is necessary. Get above .500. Everyrhing else is secondary.
2. But, once we get in to secondary goals, I'd like to see Evers run less and dish or pass more. I say this with the caveat of take what the D gives you.
3. I agree UConn can hold UB's offense in check. So, nothing stupid on special teams, penalties or turnovers. Play a clean game.

I know we have played two P4 programs but I feel like this would be a statement win. We're coming off a complete demolition of a FAU team that's not horrific. Buffalo is a good G5 team with a stout D. If we can win, I think it's a major turning point for the season. If we win comfortably, something I'm not confident in, then look out moving forward.

My kid has a softball tournament today but I'm gonna try and sneak the game on my phone when I can.

As always staying on or ahead of schedule on 1st downs will be vital so we can avoid obvious long passing on 3rd down for our 'passing limited' QB, and will allow us to play some tempo to keep Buffalo's D on it's heels.
Limit turnovers and those 40+ yard passing and running plays we've been susceptible to giving up

Team has looked different this year (as someone mentioned), at least after the Maryland game. Don't get cute with play calling, give them the Rocky Marciano treatment with the run (pound the body of their defense will pay off in 2nd half) and Nick get that little bit better at finding his receivers and the offense will be ok. As noted, no big plays on defense and get some turnovers.

About 68 P4 teams and 8 G5 teams in top 68 (so 8 P4 teams have G5 teams ranked ahead of them), win this and the homestand and we are getting into/near top 10 of G5 (that is where Navy and San Jose State are). That would be something after how we looked to end 2023.

Last week was perfect table setting for this week's unveiling of the Evers-Bell-Sheffield show. Hit them over the top early and they'll be on their heels all day.

I highly doubt that we'll be able to run the ball as effectively as we did last week but this still should be a part of the game plan.

As stated, we should have some opportunities for pass plays if they are overly focused on stopping the run.

Bottom line, I want the W, how we get it is not yet all that important. We are still too early in our progression to worry about style points.

Looking at the numbers, Buffalo has a bottom 10 offense in YPG (as does FAU, for reference). Their passing numbers are especially low, which plays into our strengths. I think our defense does its job today, and the run game does at least enough to move the ball and win the game. Evers taking a step forward as a passer will be the determining factor in whether we can win comfortably again.

As BL said we need to have a plan for them loading the box and we need a plan for Dolac. They've seen how our offense can be effective on the ground and they will have to try to suffocate it or disrupt it in some way. We don't have an experienced QB that can audible or adjust so maybe we go with tempo to keep Buffalo from adjusting. It will be interesting to see the approach and whether we can take advantage of one v one situations for our WR group. Athletes should be able to make plays on offense today.

Our D should be able to create big problems for Buffalo. They may be setting up the offense in a field position advantage. Just be smart out there. We know how these zebras are with targeting. They think the game is played in super slo-mo.

It is first question I asked immediately after the FAU game: Can Evers beat the opposition with his throwing? UConn cannot run for 400 or even 200 plus uards every game.
