I saw this firsthand when I lived in Italy, as I befriended a family whose son was a star for a Lega Basket (top Italian division) academy team. They train, train, train and after a certain age, do not get much of an education. In soccer it's worse. At many academies you go to school from 8am until 10am at a very young age.
This is why I have mixed feelings about the US moving this way.
