It says it's going to be close and played at a fast pace.

One interesting note. One of the linesmakers was on Millman's podcast and said they didn't consider a pro-UConn crowd in the line.

Also someone made a 200k money line bet on UConn yesterday at Hooters. Which coukd be a hedge on an Iowa State future or could just be someone who really likes them tonight.

The sharp money is on UConn. It was for our previous 2 games as well, so maybe that's good mojo?

Damn, what's the payout on that?
251k, Rovell was tweeting about it last night. Apparently the guy rolled over his winnings from our 2 wins.

Trying to get my arms around this.

Not sure which of the following surprises me the most:

That you can bet large sums of money at Hooters.
That people "hedge" bets on basketball teams like traders hedge bets on commodities.
That there is a silent K in the word "could.";)

I wonder if that guy considers it house money?

Hooters is a William Hill sportsbook. Most of the properties in Vegas are either Hill or Cantor at this point.

The best reason to bet futures is the ability to hedge. If you had ISU at 100-1 or something, you'd probably want to lock in some profit.

For what it's worth the best sports gambler I have access to is on UConn and Tennessee tonight.

game started as a pick on most sites... when I checked yesterday we were 1.5 pt dogs and about 67% of the public $$ was on ISU. Spread is still the same today, but the percentages are 60-40, still in favor of ISU.

Take UConn by a couple. (Home court advantage and no Niang.) Take the over - 146.5. Fast paced game. Iowa State played a "slow schedule". I guess they think there will be a lot of scoring and we have just enough to come out on top. I would think the winner would have to be in the 80s.

Under is the right play, IMO. MSG is historically a building the under hits more times than not, especially in the college game. They play with the NBA hoops/rims and they are tighter than most college arena rims. This results in more missed shots as the rim wont be as forgiving.

Also the public loves high scoring games so they will more of the time take the over. Iowa St is known to run up and down the floor and a lot of people outside of CT view the huskies as an up and down team and don't necessarily view them as a slow it down and run half court sets. I think that will be UConn's gameplan. Push transition but if an easy bucket isn't there then slow it down and run good sets and wait for good looks. They will also look to limit Iowa St transition game.

Whoever controls the pace will win this game. Up and down and Iowa St probably wins but if it becomes a defensive slugfest and played in the half court sets then UConn will have the better chance. Just have to play great D and hold their own on the boards.

1) Is Google broken for you?

2) Line opened at pick'em, but has been strong for ISU since.

3) A very large bet on UConn hit one of the houses yesterday - $250k.

Caesar's Entertainment controls more Vegas books than William Hill if not mistaken. With Cantor (arm of Cantor Fitzgerald) books you can wager electronically now if in Vegas. They have incorporated electronic wagering under a similar umbrella as electronic trading in the stock market. Cantor books will set up an account with you essentially putting no limits on amounts wagered. The WH books are traditionally located in lower budget hotels...several off the strip. The strip books are controlled by Cantor& Caesar's. Las Vegas Hilton (LVH) sports book is not affiliated with any of the entities above and is a stand alone big player in Vegas.

Good points Metho. Forgot those tight rims and that would affect the O/U.. We'll know right off
if the shots are bouncing all over the place. Would mean longer rebounds on 3 point shots. In pro arenas this year we scored 72 and 59 at MSG, 75 at Houston 75, and 83, 72, 71, and 58 at Memphis. We only broke 80 once.

Your pro theory may be right and we may in for a defensive slugfest.

That big UConn bet has to be the hedge fund guy who was going nuts in Maui in 2011/made Ted's open bar after the Florida game.

Another irony in the mix, Hooters was cofounded by an ISU alum.
