I like well thought out observations, observations that result from thorough knowledge and research, observations that are fair and accurate, observations that contribute to the particular thread and lead to even more dialogue, observations that challenge convention and not always in line with the consensus. I also tend to "like" those who quote me, then provide substantial observations of their own in support or in disagreement.

More than one of them can apply. Of course, on those rare occasions when I get a "like," I get all Sally Fields and gush to anyone within earshot, "They like me, they really like me," just before my blood-alcohol content is measured.

I would have selected four out of five - leaving off the cloud of dust.

I usually post an off season thread suggesting people use the like button more - there are a number of people who put lots of thought and effort into posts, there are a number of people who locate and post links to great stories I would likely miss without their posts, there are visitors from other teams that bring intriguing insight, and there are people who truly send my coffee through my nose with their humor, and it is nice to let them know that others appreciate their efforts.

I like posts that have supporting information, that are not just a lot of hot air like mine usually are.

And I especially like posts where a thread has tuned into a play on words and someone is creative or unique with their use of a word.

My first poll, and I blew it. Should have at least added All of the Above and Other. Should have not hit your vote will be public, 'cuz no one voted. Oh, well, live and learn. Anyway, I believe that a like should not be construed as agreement, but respect for the posted thought ... beyond that, people can quote and gush and the exact opposite too. And I agree with VAmike23 that pandering for likes is, well, pandering (aka hooking).

I agree.
This was funny.
Thanks for posting.
This was interesting.
Your post was heartwarming.
Thank you for the complement.
I appreciate your gritty pluckiness.
Don't worry, I am not angry at you.
I support you or sympathize with you.
I acknowledge that you mentioned me.
I agree that [insert poster handle] is a jerk.
I am happy about the news that you posted.
You posted asking whether something happened, it did.
I acknowledge that your post corrects my post. You are right.
I acknowledge that you brought up an old Boneyard meme/story.
I acknowledge that you are still calling @August_West a commie.

I'm sure that there are more....and apparently there are since I edited to include a few more.

I like it when someone can suck it up and admit to a mistake as we all make them.;) I tend to like informative posts supplying links showing someone went out of their way to bring info on a pertinent topic. Also hit like for posts I strongly agree with. Something I would NEVER like is those asking dumb questions they could simply google for an answer. Thus just coming across as lazy, not really trying to create dialog. Outright funny always works for me also.:D

MONT: wha?? I don't know much about you yet and don't mean to be offensive to you. And, have not consulted Websters on "like."

In real life, or my life, "Like" does not equal "Agree." To whit, one of my closest friends is a far left foreign born dual citizenship out of Egypt via Canada. He and I do agree on all that is wrong in this once great nation, but we see the causal factors very, very differently and argue like hell every time we are together, which is often. We do not agree when push comes to shove, but we do like and even love one another.

Would that our nation and our world could function in similar fashion instead of this thin-minded, vicious, and destructive behavior of shouting down, assaulting, and killing one another because of a different point of view. Stay well.

How to accrue Likes

1) Suck up to BoneYard Big Shots. Use their name in a post for extra credit.

2) Paraphrase a Mod, and stick the thought randomly in another thread. Overflow likes will ensue.

3) Be pithy to snare likes from the lack of focus crowd.

4) Frequent verbosity spiced with arcane statistics will catch likes from wandering folks hoping for smartness approval.

5) Include derogatory comments about Tennessee anywhere anytime.

6) Pile on a poster who was/is inebriated and typed something insanely vapid.

And so on…

I wish I could dig up that old post, because it was one of my better ones (and I would like to get more "likes" on it too ;)).

One of the criteria that I mentioned in that old post was that I will also award a "like" to someone if I believe that they have a superpower, such as telepathy or perhaps even webbed feet...

use the "Search" feature to dig up whatever you want... just use a few keywords and the poster who posted it (yourself in this instance)
