My 2008 Colorado has been sitting in my driveway for two years. I was told the frame was cracked in several places and should not be driven.

I have a friend who says he has a friend who is a welder and can make the car drivable for a couple hundred bucks (friend discount).

I just wanna get it out of my driveway and I offered it to my friend for nothing. I wanna make sure that the title is transferred and everything's done legally, mostly because I don't trust him to not just drive it around regardless of whether or not it's been fixed or registered in his name.

How do I give a car away but make sure that it's no longer my responsibility?

Every state has different requirements but it shouldn't be much more difficult than going to DMV and filling out a form for transferring the title.

Call me a cynic but most states are more interested in collecting taxes from the the transfer than they are legal ownership.

If you have the title I'm pretty sure all you need to do it fill out the respective sections and sign it...I would take a picture of the signed doc to have. Make sure you turn in the plates to the DMV. Then they know you sold the car even if your friend never registers it

I would also have him sign a 1-2 paragraph statement disclosing what you said. Cracked frame, don't drive, needs to be repaired or used for parts. include the $1 for the car in the agreement.

The main thing is to make sure you turn the plate in, and if your state has it a method for "deregistering" the car - Florida has a process for that, for example. It's critical because I've sold a car before and then months later had the DMV try to come after me.

You'd be better off IMO selling to a scrapper. If this is someone you want to see alive, that is.

Plates were transferred a year and a half ago. It's unregistered.

First there was Google, Then came Chat GPT, But finally going public at a valuation of $1045.00 is the Boneyard, to answer all your questions, powered by real humans albeit with specific biases and peculiarities.

The Boneyard predates Google.
