Closer to being a quasi-state entity. Central Connecticut is more like the primary campus of the State University system. They have different functions too. UConn is a research entity offering PhD’s in a range of fields, has a medical and law schools while CCSU is more teaching and “applied research” oriented. These are not meant to demean CCSU. Just to indicate they are a different animal. Most states have similar systems. Massachusetts for example, has UMass system and the state university system with Worcester State, Framingham, Bridgewater and some others.
