She isn't a chew-the-scenery, classical theatre actress like Laura Dern or Julianne Moore  (I can tolerate Moore because she will occasionally not take herself too seriously, I can't stand Dern).  Woodley lets the dialogue and the story come to her, and doesn't try to dominate the movie.  She doesn't have the annoying quirkiness that so many younger actresses have (Elle Fanning, Hannah Einbinder).  I think she is like a younger version of Kate Winslett or maybe Minnie Driver or Glenn Close, where she has an A game, but she doesn't need to flex it every time.  I think her look is great, because she is pretty enough but not strikingly beautiful, so she can play anyone.  She just hasn't broken out.
