Very proud of my daughter as she has had a great high school career and is heading to college. Was down to Uconn, Penn state and Syracuse. She chose the Orange. Ugh. No idea how to react. Wish she did not get the aid she received that would have made it too expensive! Of course I am proud and excited for her but I am also freaking out a bit. I hate the Cuse almost more than any other school (hello Duke). What do you do in this situation?

Root for your daughter, not her school. Think of every A she gets as beating Syracuse.

Thank god she got a good scholarship! It certainly isn't worth it at full price!
But for her. as I tell all kids, it is nice to be wanted. I'm sure she'll thrive. ( Be aware of tough winters though - I once spent a month in Syracuse during a three day business trip in February one year.) Kind of an ugly city too - makes Hartford look like Paris.

I will say I played the weather card, I found out it is one of the "gloomiest" cities in America, not to mention the winters. I guess she did not buy that.

It was tough trying to play it straight. I bleed uconn blue as an alum and rabid fan. I raised her as a husky fan. Tuff to take. She vows I will be wearing an SU hat at least. Maybe briefly but I am seriously in a bit of pain.

Why the hell would you be wearing a Syracuse hat again?

Don't blame yourself. Sometimes, no matter how well raised, kids go off the tracks and make bad decisions. We can only hope she eventually sees the error in her ways and transfers.

Seriously, congratulations!

Not uncommon... You deal with it.
My kids lives will not be interfered with by who I cheer for on the court or field.

She's more important than UConn basketball. You don't need to change your rooting interest, or put Syracuse stickers on your car or anything.

My wife graduated from BC. My 14 year old hasn't visited any school, but she may well end up at BC. If so, I'll be proud of her. I certainly would if she went to Duke.

She's your child, she made a choice so I know you will pray and guide her to do her best
On the other hand, maybe Cuse will be put on double secret probation and she will transfer to UConn.
If any of my kids went to Cuse or Puke or Kensucky - I would never, ever wear anything that had those names on them. Then again, they all knew where I stood so I don't think that would have been an issue. Didn't have to worry, my son got a free ride with a full Nutmeg Scholarship at UConn and my daughters wanted to play soccer in Div III.
I wish her the best -

Just make sure she knows the hat isn't going to happen and not to bring any school stuff home as presents for Christmas, your birthday or father's day. I've already given my son a list of schools that I would be proud of him if he got in, but don't even think about bringing home their propaganda for me to wear (BC, 'cuse, Duke). The fire pit will be busy if he does.

I imagine that conversation went pretty much like this:

TMB4405: Hi honey, what's up?

Daughter: Dad I made my decision on where I want to go college.

TMB4405: That's great honey. I am so happy for you! You will love Storrs!

Daughter: Dad, I'm going to Syracuse.

TMB4405: You're nothing to me now. I don't want you in my house. I don't want to see you in the casinos...

Daughter: Casinos....?

TMB4405: When you want to come and see your mother I want a day's notice so I won't be here....

Daughter: Dad?

TMB4405: Get out.

Daughter: Wait, are you serious?

TMB4405: No, no honey, I'm just glad you found a place that you like. Come here give me a hug.

[They hug as TMB4405 stares into the distant with cold lifeless look in his eyes. Scene fades to black.]

I'm glad she got a good scholarship. How is she going to pay the rest? Did she find a place to live on breaks yet?

Well, you can root for Syracuse 2-3 times a year when they play Duke. Just make sure all the cuse gear is safely out of the house when UConn is playing.

Be proud and wear your obligatory Cuse gear when you are changing the oil, painting, or taking out the garbage.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but we're not talking about shooty-hoops... in this place, nothing is bigger than UConn FB.

Congrats on your daughter's success, TMB, it's nothing to be upset about... Just wait until September 29th 2018; the Huskies will turn the Orangemen into doormats on the gridiron, and raze the Carrier Dome on the way out!
