Make no mistake about it: the Aggies may have a very good WBB team, but A&M is a gigantic mess right now.

Their athletic director, Bill Byrne, was tasked with announcing that A&M was terminating its football coach Mike Sherman. Note that he didn't support Sherman's hiring to begin with. He also didn't support his termination at this juncture. He's the AD and didn't get much say in hiring the most important coach on campus.

His own contract is set to expire in 18 months, and it's an open secret it's not going to be renewed.

Let's keep going, shall we? After Robert Gates vacated the Presidency of A&M to become Defense Secretary, A&M brought on a very bright Hispanic woman. She, God forbid, wanted to reign in the athletic department, which had to borrow $17 million from the university in order to remain solvent. She was ousted and replaced with the bowtie-wearing chauvinist nincompoop they have today.

Rick Perry and the Aggie board of regents are running the show there. They're the ones who decided to move A&M to the SEC. This was a move the athletic department generally didn't support. The CFO of the AD was recently outed on TexAgs.com for posting on the site and calling A&M's president a putz.

So in the midst of all this silliness, they now have to make the most important football-related hire they've had to make. Targets appear to be Kevin Sumlin of Houston and Larry Fedora of Southern Miss. Not terrible hires, but neither have proven they can get it done in big-time conferences.

Just thought some people might be interested in hearing the mess A&M's WBB team is leaving behind in College Station as they head up to Hartford.

Oh, one more thing. Sherman is about to sue A&M because the president didn't bother to sign his contract extension and are trying to use this as an excuse to screw him out of an extra $3 million that was in the buyout clause of the new contract. UConn at its worst never was this much of a mess.

Did you hear about the Aggie who was so dumb that his roommate noticed it?

Oh Aggies. What a disaster. If they had beaten Texas on Thanksgiving he might still have a job. Moving to the SEC without a football coach...great plan. The only thing about A&M moving conferences that I like is the possibility of Tennessee losing its grip on SEC domination.

And of course everyone is going to be lining up for the football job at a place like that.

Just one addendum: certainly, on Bill Byrne's watch, A&M football has mostly stagnated (not really his fault since he wasn't calling any shots), and they've had money problems (very much part of his job description). However, the record should show that he's done a heck of a job with women's athletics at A&M. I don't think he'll get a ton of credit for it, but it should be part of his legacy.

Plus, their track and field men's AND women's teams have won the NCAA title three years in a row. That is pretty incredible.

Of course, this is Texas, so even if every other team in the program won a National Championship last year, if the football team was 6-6 and lost to UT, it's a terrible year.

Especially after it came out this morning that Sherman found out he was fired...wait for it...

...from the mother of a 2012 recruit he was dong an in-home visit with!

He was on the road when the news leaked over Twitter and didn't even know what was going on until the mother of the recruit he was visiting told him. Unbelievable.

A conflicting report claims he was fired over cell phone. Almost as bad.

Makes JoePA's termination by note with "Call this number," seem reasonable.

And, of course, Tenn long lost its grip in football, losing to KENTUCKY this year and just about everyone else.

UConn has lost to Vandy, Iowa State, and WMU this year, yet I am confident we would beat Tennessee by a solid 10 points or so. They are a disaster this year, especially on the OL.

For some reason I have completely opposing feelings about Tennessee and TAMU in regards to their athletic programs vs. their women's bball...I would NEVER root for the Aggies in anything but women's basketball (except when they play UConn, of course) and I have no animosity towards any other Tennessee program except it's women's bball. Strange.
