Somewhere down the road, years from now, we can maybe have another "Dream Season" where we come from out of nowhere unexpectedly.

The years spent in nowhere between now and then may sorta suck.

I'm about as down as can be about this, but I'm also curious about what will happen.

This gets me thinking about USC and Ohio State football. Both of these programs have similar punishments (USC's being worse) and both are doing just fine, especially with recruits.

I guess OSU is slightly different in that they just hired Urban Meyer, which would sorta be like Billy Donovan or Bill Self all of a sudden deciding to coach at Uconn right now.

I think USC and OSU football are the uquivalent of Kentucky and Kansas in basketball, and I know Uconn is not at that level, but they are also no middling program.

I'm not sure what will happen, and I am expecting it to be bad, but you never know. One year is just one year.

Important differences:
1. Football "student-athletes" need to stay 3 years, basketball only 1.
2. Without a tournament, the postseason is a glorified pre-season game except for one game you are not likely to make.

Much bigger deal in basketball.

Wasn't that last year?

Different type of "out of nowhere" than the Dream Season. We were only one year removed from a Final Four. The Dream Season, we came from the abyss.

I see your point and I agree that it is more influential on cbb than cfb. But I think most players that Uconn recruits are multi-year players. Of course getting to play in the postseason is important, but I would guess that getting into the NBA is more important (especially when you hear quotes from prospective players). They go to Uconn because of JC's ability to get guys into the NBA and because of the Uconn brand.

OSU and USC still get players to go there because these kids grew up dreaming of playing there.

UConn has 3 national championships in the past 13 years, have had other great teams with a lot of nba guys (02, 05-06, 09).

Almost every recruit can probably remember back t0 04, and possibly even 1999. I think this still carries weight, regardless of the postseason.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens, since I'm not so sure yet.
