It means just a tad more than his entry on the ticker from yesterday - "UConn: Sources tell us Buffalo quarterbacks coach/recruiting coordinator Don Patterson will join Bob Diaco's staff at UConn."

Nice resume and solid reputation for sure. Now if only we can learn WHAT staff position!

The QB coach / Associate Head Coach position called for a coach with head coaching experience so I am assuming that will be his role. Diaco really showing some smarts by hiring an experienced guy and a winner to help him on the sideline.

Clearly Coach P because we have never had a coach with that name here. At least, not as far as I can recall.

Patterson was a coach at Iowa when Diaco played, seems they go way back.

In a profession where moving from one job to another seems to be the norm, Patterson was at Iowa for 20 years before leaving for the HC job at Western Ill where he was for 10 yrs before being let go after getting sick. Quinn brought him back into the profession 3 years ago. This is a good track record...unlike someone else who was here the past few years.

Sounds like a knowledgeable coach who Coach Diaco is comfortable with. The fact that he played under him at Iowa makes me think that Coach D liked how he treated and coached the players. And he can also be a mentor.

Are some still predicting Chuck "Chuck it Long" Long will be hired as well? I was disappointed at first, taken aback by Patterson's age, but soon realized that Diaco could not have found a more experienced guy to assist him. This guy has a great life story and will be great for Uconn as we build on our own story.

Was a role player, bench player for Army. Position? Safety. DId his service and went straight into coaching college football.

Nothing like a smart guy, who's got coaching college football in his veins, that knows how to play safety, to be be coaching QB's and offense. I like the hire, I like the experience, and I like the track record of success - recent success. This guy fits the profile of a guy who is a survivor, a fighter, and wants to be in the game, and he knows the recruiting territory.

I'm reluctant to be excited about new coaches after that last experience, but I cannot help myself but be enthusiastic about everything happening moving forward for this program.

This coach will an asset to the program based on his athletic resume and successes. More importantly, the kids will gain a wealth of knowledge on life in general based on the personal challenges this man had to perservere and overcome. A winner for the student athletes many times over/

I think he is there to help Bob D. When you finally take the reins as the head guy, you absolutely have to have someone you know and trust to bounce things off of. This guy has been there and done that, and is an ideal sounding board for HCBD. He can probably help in other areas, but I suspect that will be his main role. Good first hire.
