Weist’s view on UConn offense...

Weist actually said "zone read", that's the biggest bit of new information we have had all Spring. So (I assume) McCummings will be running the pistol zone read option. Glad we are now trying to run a modern offense.

Only 1 RB mentioned. Guess who?

To be fair, here some quotes from the Courant's article:

Said Pasqualoni: "[Joe's] got the speed, I want him to play in the game as hard as he's been playing and as well focused as he's been in practice. … Max has got to make a cut and go." Said Weist: "Both those guys have stepped up, shown some speed and make-you-miss ability." In nine games, DeLorenzo gained 119 yards on 36 carries. Williams played in three games and totaled 6 rushing yards on three attempts. Neither scored.

I think Silver generally does a good job, but I think this sentence illustrates the, shall way say, the selective lack of aggressiveness of The Horde

Weist comes to UConn from Cincinnati and he is tasked with helping improve and offense that lingered in two years near the bottom of the FBS in production. After a second straight season of an offense that was ranked in the bottom 15 in total production, UConn head coach Paul Pasqualoni moved his long-time assistant George DeLeone off the offensive coordinator rotation and brought in the energetic Weist, who was a wide receivers coach at Cincinnati and was also and experienced offensive coordinator having served at Western Kentucky.

Writing and implying the Weist hire was 100 percent PP's doing is at a minimum lazy and inaccurate and insults readers who have half a clue about the program. Would be like a WVU writer saying the Holgorsen hire was all Bill Stewart's idea. You don't have to be a genius to know PP didn't write the job description.

What is an offensive coordinator rotation? Is that like how P and D used to rotate the Centers last season and not the running back?

This made me giggle.

That was a great read. I'm getting really excited for this season. I like where he said they'd focus on executing a few plays that they do well. I thought the complexity of GDL's offense was pointless and self defeating. You really don't need to know 400 different offensive plays to win a game. It sounds like the oline is starting to build some chemistry, and if Weist can get one or two of our WRs performing at a high level we could be in really good shape this season. We need a bowl game this season.

"Noel Thomas and Dhameer Bradley, a pair of athletic wide receivers who are on campus this spring as greyshirts."

No ... that is NOT what greyshirts are. A Silverism.

Thanks, didn't see that one. And the fact that the other guys didn't "break out" during very limited action didn't help. Still a real attempt to diversify the running game early on would have been a better approach imo. Based on the quote looks like they are trying to elevate the other guys.

Interesting post. Sounds like they might try to have an offense this season. That will be exciting, huh? Run Right, Run left, Run up the middle. Here we go!

Just trying to be optimistic. Let me get through the first couple of games before I join you!
