I pulled this from Wiki: In June 1979, the NBA adopted the three-point line (initially on a one-year trial) for the 1979–80 season, despite the view of many that it was a gimmick. Chris Ford of the Boston Celtics is credited with making the first three-point shot in NBA history on October 12, 1979. The season opener at Boston Garden was more remarkable for the debut of Larry Bird (and two new head coaches). Like I said earlier, I liked the 4 point shot. I liked it wasn't a line, but rather circles they needed to shoot out of. The 3 point shot was originally strongly disliked and termed "gimmicky". Even players like Bird didn't take many the first year or 2 it was there. But now it's a staple. Honestly I don't care if they adopt it or not - they probably won't, but I do like growing the game and changing things up in fun ways. If players are able to make 28 foot shots (6 feet further than the 3 point line), then not only kudos to them, but they should be rewarded. Again I get some really dislike it so I'm not trying to argue. As for people hating the game... The audience for the game peaked from 10:30 – 10:43 p.m. ET with 4,054,000 viewers. Additional context: It was the first time in 19 years that the WNBA All-Star Game game crossed the 1-million viewership mark and only the third time in history (2003 and 2005) where the game topped the 1 million viewers. So you guys are firmly in the minority. But shout it loud and proud! LOL
