So, that was a feast week, eh? As of today, 11 undefeateds remain in t25. Three top25 matchups.

Only three ranked vs ranked games this week.

All three games will be on Thursday.
So Washington at USC this Sunday doesn't count??? Or is it just an ESPN network thing because the BIG10 no longer participates in these conference challenges? 😉

Seems weird to me that the ACC-SEC Challenge is this week and only 3 games are Top 25 matchups.
Of course 2 other of the Challenge games just missed out. 🤔😲

Washington has been coasting against a weak schedule. I don't think Utah is even a pale shadow of what they were last year, so I don't even count that as a real game. This will be their first actual test of the season.

At the half, Nova still leading WVU, 48-35. Villanova went cold for a while but heated back up in last couple of minutes. Bascoe up to 20.

After three quarters, Villanova still holding their lead over the #25 Mountaineers, now 68-51. Bascoe up to 24, having to sit on the bench with 3 fouls for a lot of the quarter.

As bad as the big east is… we have a few power 5 wins outside of UConn. Our conference rating probably isn’t that far behind the acc lol.

Nova's losses to Princeton & Fairfield are not terrible, but this is their biggest win by far.

Telling stretch coming up with @ Gtown (5-2), v SHall (4-0), v StJohns (7-1). Those look to be the 4 BgE teams that we fighting for an NCAA berth. Maybe Crei/Marq too.

There's a decent gap (at least according to massey), but the ACC is only slight closer to 3rd place (B12) than it is to 5th place Big East.

SEC 817
B1G 810 (-1%)
B12 771 (-5%)
ACC 749 (-3%)
BGE 723 (-3%)
A10 669 (-7%)

Apparently Washington is doing this thing where they don't actually start playing until Q1 is over. Get off to slow starts almost every game. I'm not loving it.

San Jose St. is really bad. Came into the game 0-5, all 5 losses by double digits, to the likes of UCSB, Pepperdine, Portland St., Cal Baptist, and BYU the one maybe good team they've played. Portland St. just lost to UC San Diego by 30. Yet SJSU was within 4 at the end of Q1. Woke up and running away in Q2, but why does it take 10 minutes to start doing anything?

The theory was Marquette, with their whole starting line up back was pegged #2 but they have drastically underperformed. SJU upset Ok State but did lose to Harvard. SHU has a paltry 4 wins against “nobodies” and play Princeton tomorrow so that should give us a glimpse. To me, we are just a one bid league with the door open given how bad the ACC really is but can ant BE school walk through that door way is the question we will be trying to answer all year….

Villanova wins 81-59. Bascoe ends with 24. She still looks like a very good player.
If she can be more consistent in her shooting, it will interesting to see how she fares over the next couple years. That's been the one thing that eludes her some times. At least Villanova has had some balance to their scoring recently as it seemed it was going to be very dependent on her at the start of the season.

She scored 20 of her 24 points in the first half before sitting in the second half because she had 3 fouls. I don't know how to check but I believe that she was very efficient in the first half, scoring in a variety of ways. As I mentioned earlier, at the end of the first quarter, she had 15 points...and WVU only had 17. She was on a roll.

Fully understood, however from what I saw during her play during the summer with Canada Basketball and the first few games this season, she can be feast or famine from a shooting perspective. For reference here are her stats from the U19 tournament, with some head scratching shooting percentages against teams that I would not have expected her to struggle against.

If she can improve the consistency, and manage her fouls, I'm going to be very happy for her. She's a tough kid who has challenged herself from a young age from what I remember during her rep ball days. Canada Basketball needs dependable point guards for the next generation of teams and she's being looked at to fill that gap.

Thanks for the background. She looked really good, scoring wise, in the first half last night. Sorta like she was playing against the Huskies 🙂.
Big turn here and might be completely irrelevant to BYers...she looks like professional wrestler AJ Lee, IMO.

I like it. Next time I bump into her father, I'll mention that. He'll definitely take it as a compliment because it means she's tough as hell. 😉
