Top 25 games this week, along with some friends. I'll start doing overall and conference standings when the latter starts up.

At the beginning of the season, I wouldn't have listed Quinnipiac as the favorite against Princeton. Given that the Tigers lost to Duquesne, and Quinnipiac trounced Indiana-slayers, Harvard, Quinnipiac is a slight favorite in my little black book.

At first glance, I didn't see a lot of great matchups this week. Once I dug a bit, I'd be interested in Louisville v. Kentucky, Stanford @ Indiana, a double helping of Fairfield v Oklahoma State and Addie Budnik's Richmond. South Dakota State hosting the Blue Devils has the potential to be a trap game for Duke, and TCU could give NC State a scare if Conner and Van Lith are hot from the arc.

I'm partial to the mid-majors, and I'm always curious to see how the best players do against tougher competition. While I expect Rachael Rose and Katelyn Young to struggle this week, I'll be watching them against Kentucky and LSU respectively.

Agreed. How will NC State handle Prince in the post? Can't recall if their bigs faced anyone similar last season off the top of my head.
Last season, they faced Kamilla. This season, they have faced shorter Ashlyn, Joyce and Sania ( without Chloe).

Sedona will be a test. The question is whether TCU can slow down state’s guards. I am a doubter.

Just returned from NAU Lumberjack home opener. Jacks move to 2-1 with a 101-68 win over Fort Lewis.

Jack's the preseason pick to win the Big Sky have a deeply experienced team starting 3 seniors and 2 juniors.

Coach Payne and the team have work to do, soul searching and a recognition of the role defense plays.

In the opener they had to score 31 iin the 4th n their opener in the pit to defeat a rebuilding New Mexico team and their trip to Las Vegas showed exactly how well run efficient program performs.

Against Fort Lewis there was zero perimeter defense as if the Jacks were daring their opponent to shoot the three. This will clearly come back to have significant impacts once the Jacks enter League Play.

A lot of money so today's game was really an exhibition one but it was fun to see the team and 5-year starter and 3 points sharpshooter Emily Roudabaugh now graduated was in the house.

The next home game is on the 20th when the Jacks host the kitties at Rolleactivity center on the NAU campus. This is a classy move by U of A as the Rolle activity center makes middle school multipurpose gyms look luxurious.

Good win for Creighton over the always dangerous Drake.

Jensen and Maly combine for 52.

Needed it. They were staring at a possible 0-4 start to the season otherwise. At Kansas State and host Nebraska are the next two.

Arkansas is going to lose to Little Rock unless they turn things around in a big way.

A&M, Missouri, and Arkansas really stink this year and will be destroyed in SEC play.

Edit: 22-7 4th quarter from Arkansas. They took advantage of bad foul shooting from Little Rock. And they managed to force overtime.

First five points of overtime. Arkansas may survive this one.

Seems like every game for Oklahoma St. someone different has gone off. Tonight is Anna Gret Asi's turn. 33 w/ a few minutes left, 7-13 from 3. Cruising past Texas Southern.

Kitties play UNLV at McKale tomorrow at 6:00.

I think this is an intriguing game and should give some insight into both teams' prospects for the coming year. Barnes is trying to rebuild or reload in her first year in the Big 12 and I'm not sure who is going to contest the dominance of UNLV in the Mountain West.

From UNLV web site

The Lady Rebels return 10 of the 14 players from its 2024 championship squad, including two starters and Mountain West Sixth Player and Freshman of the Year Amarachi Kimpson.

Kimpson is an outstanding talent!

Yeah, hard to label the Arizona team. Rebuild is a bit harsh, but reload is maybe more accurate.

The primary starters were here last year - Beh is in a new role as a starter, but Cunningham, Williams and Jones remain. Transfers Jah and Paris and last year's recruit (red shirt) Dew are all getting minutes. Swann and the 2 new European players really look promising, there was a big article in the paper on them today. So - how good are they all? Don't know.

Yes, tonight's game is a big one - if we lose we will learn - as Adia said - where we stand and what we need to work on. If we win, I'm sure UNLV will none-the-less expose weaknesses. Planning on being courtside.

When I saw Maryland and Syracuse playing Wednesday, I'm thinking "Geez, they're playing conference games ALREADY?"

They've been in the B1G ten years or so, and I still can't get it through my thick skull. I've been on campus dozens of times since, and the only thing seeing all the B1G banners and stuff does is piss me off.

[/rant mode]

I can't imagine how all the West Coasters are feeling.

Never mind Cambridge or McMahon, Chance Gray went wild for Ohio St. today. 31 points, 11-17 shooting, 9-14 behind the arc. Those 9 3's tie a program record.

Fairfield only scored 7 points in the entire first half! Got beat by Richmond 62-39.

I commend Chapel Hill for scheduling a game at NC A&T. Just the second ranked foe to visit the Dawg Pound (UCLA was the first).

Chapel Hill 66 NC A&T 47.

My Aggies might just be the best 0-3 squad in the country

As far as bigs in the post - last season the Pack saw Edwards (UConn), Kitley (VT), Kamilla (SC) and Brink (Stan). Now Kitley and Brink are not exactly bangers in the post. But also I wouldn’t compare any of them anyhow because States post players are gone from last year.

River Baldwin was a big physical presence and Mimi Collins brought fight and tenacity even if she wasn’t a Giant herself. With Weimar out, the Pack is rolling out freshmen and sophomores at the 5 or 6’5” lizzy williamson a 5th year senior. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her get major minutes for defense this game - I don’t love that personally as she has been turnover prone and clumsy on offense. Tilda Trygger is a freshman with the length (6’6”) and is very fluid and athletic - however she seems to prefer being on the wing as opposed to banging in the block.

The Pack doesn’t really have an answer in the paint at this stage. I’m fascinated to see how they do in this one on the road. Not an easy early season game! The guards gotta show up more than they did against SC.

What was an interesting game. I wonder what your impressions were of:

Kimpson

UNLV defense

UNLV offensive rebounding

UofA turnovers continue

Swann and Jones in the second half

BTW I listen to the UNLV broadcast and they indicated Bei. started her college career 5 years ago in Vegas before Lindy LaRoche arrived in Sin City.
