How can they pull this off by January 12th? Can we recruit with just a head coach or do we also require OC and DC at a minimum?

I am starting to lean towad Houston at JMU and the possibility he brings his most of his staff with him.

Earliest this can be done is 1/2...that's technically Diaco's last day. We should hear something by 1/2-1/3 at the earliest..1/5 at the latest.

Technically it can be done, but it would not be preferable obviously. I recall when Ash was hired at RU he literally had The S & C Coach out recruiting because it was one of the first hires he had made at that point. Again not preferable but possible.

I imagine that a minimum of three or four current assistants will be retained. Finding the remaining from a pool of coaches the new HC knows from his travels should not take very long.

The new coach may bring one or two guys with him on day one. Other than that, you leave our staff in place until recruiting is over and then figure it out. And, given that we're late to the party, it may be like when P came in and some of the staff with no connection to the new coach stays for one year and then gets replaced.

Another reason for the potential one week gap between Diaco announcement and new head coach. Give the new coach a full week to bring in an OC and DC. The conversations will have gone from hypotheticals to real dates and dollar amounts.

This way the new HC can hit the ground running with two coordinators who can finish up recruiting and start filling out their staff.
