Another factoid that forecasts a great, great Husky year. This year's team is the only one to have three returning WBCA All-Americans (Gabby, Lou and Pheesa). There have been seven teams that have had three AAs and UConn had six of them, including the last four years. Also, UConn in 2009 and 2002 and Tenn. in 1999 with Catchings, Holdsclaw and Randall. Three AAs almost always guarantees a national championship but not in 1999 and, unfortunately, not last year.

Since the beginning of time, 1995 to be exact, UConn has had 20 seasons with at least 1 AA, of which 6 had three and 6 times we had 2 AAs. When we have had 2 or 3 AAs we have made the final four in all years except 1996-97. So we reached teh final four 11 out of 12 chances. During that same period there have been only a handful of teams with multiple AAs. Their success has been mixed. 11 opportunities: 6 final fours of which 2 ended with championships.

Tennesee had 3 in 1999 and lost in the final 8.

The teams with 2 AAs:
Tenn in 1998 and they won it all.
Baylor in 2012 and 2013--one championship and one round of 16.
ND in 2014 when they lost to UConn in the championship.
Washington in 2016 when they went to the final four.
Stanford in 2010 and 2012 when they went to the final four.
Maryland in 2008 and 2009 when they lost in the round of 8 each time.
Louisiana Tech in 1996 when they lost in the round of 8.

Well last year they didn't start the year as AAs... In fact they started the year as a UConn team without any returning AAs which hadn't been the case in some time.

Last year was unusual for UConn in that we had no returning All-Americans. Stewie, Mo, and Morgan all went to the WNBA after 4 NCAA championships.

This year is unique in that we have 3 returning All-Americans. Though we have had 3 AAs before, I don't think we have had 3 of them from one season return for the following year. I like our chances. :D
