So we know @Plebe won't be impressed, but the Mystics beat another playoff team. That's 3 in about a week. LA went 8 deep and starters played plenty of minutes, so they weren't trying to lose.

Maybe they can petition the league to get them the extra-large participation trophy.

Both teams were cold in the middle of the 4th, then Myisha got hot again. Washington is playing pretty good ball.

Hines-Allen for most improved player this season? Her emergence this year has been stunning.

Last year, averaged 2.3 ppg and 2.1 rpg in 7.8 mpg.
This year, averaging 16.7 ppg and 8.7 rpg in 29.8 mpg.
Last night, scored 30 points, including consecutive 3-pointers down the stretch to put away the Sparks.

I don't even remember her ever shooting 3-pointers in college.

Impressive what 4X the minutes will do for your per-game stats. Next year when EDD and Tina are back and she goes back to 7.8 minutes per game, should she get the Player Who Regressed the Furthest award?

Or maybe she'll be the player to replace EDD when she misses games due to Lyme/herniated disc/Covid/fill in the blank.

Or maybe they see her as the long-term replacement for Tina, whose best days, frankly, seem to be behind her.

Or, at the very least, now that she has proven market value, they'll trade her for someone they deem to need more.

Another interesting stat:

Of the players averaging over 15 points per game, only the following are shooting 50% FG or higher:

Hines-Allen 50.9%
N. Collier 51.2%
A. Thomas 50.2%

Strong candidates for Most Improved Player include:

Myisha Hines-Allen

Kahleah Copper

Betnijah Laney

All of them were largely bench players in the past. I've seen a lot of WNBA games this summer, and these players are all really good. They are not flukes.

Tina unfortunately has been regressing the last couple of years. Playing less minutes should help extend her career, and make her more productive.

Agreed about them not being flukes. Laney in particular has impressed me. Laney is showing she's a ridiculously good 2 way player and quite efficient. She's averaging 16.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.1 apg, and shooting 48% from the floor, 40% from deep and 85% at the line.

Not sure how Montgomery/Hayes fit in next season with the emergence of Laney and Carter, plus Courtney Williams. All 3 have been dynamite this year and make for a strong backcourt core going forward. Might make sense to trade 1 or both of Montgomery/Hayes away in hopes of picking up a quality post player.

I like the Laney story, because she was cut by Indiana in the preseason. She ended up with a near MVP season with another team. Oops, Indiana.

I think one thing this speaks to is just how hard it can be to crack the starting lineup or even the regular rotation In this 12 team league. Some legit players can end up languishing for years at the bottom of the depth chart, and that’s if they make a roster.

As far as speculating what will happen to Hines-Allen next year, Washington still had Meesseman this season. She seemed to take a step backward, instead of becoming the star of the team. Atkins was there all season as well. I can't see any way Hines-Allen goes back to being a sub 10 minute player next year, after proving what she can do.
