WAS Emmert GETTING EVEN?

Here's the problem with your theory...none of the stuff that happened at UConn hurt him. In fact, he was able to parlay his UConn experience into a bigger job at LSU then into the highest paid president in the country at UW. What was he getting even for? and blaming Emmert for the UConn mismanagement in the early days of UConn 2000 is sort of like the Republicans blaming Jimmy Carter or the Democrats blaming W Bush for stuff. He was long gone.

I heard that back in the day... Jin Calhoun kept parking in Emmert's designated space and he vowed to get him back some day

The problem with all this Emmert is out to get UConn stuff is nobody has yet explained to me what he wants to get UConn for. Helping him land a bigger and more impressive job?

Didn't they leave on less than friendly terms (at least ME and JC)? Or is that my imagination.

Are you DENSE?

Mark Emmert has dodged CT State Legislature Inspector Generals since 1999. He has avoided testifying on the Construction Malfeasance from that 1999 mismanagement throughout the intervening years. Why the Legislature does not have subpeona power ... I don't know. But, it also seems to be true that someone in Connecticut has not used full force to get the truth on all of this. By Austin's comments, we know that the Audit targeted Emmert. Further, as we can see in the article, there is a continuing small group in Connecticut that think he has been a ratbastard in hiding from this. Thus ... he has motive.

Private interactions vs. Public statements. I'm sure it got fairly ugly behind the scenes.

If you don't think Emmert as the guy in charge of oversight. was responsible or blasted privately for the shortcomings of Uconn2000, then I don't know what to tell you.

No, No, No, No. The Ct legislature didn't begin its investigation until around 2005 when word came out that a number of UConn 2000 buildings didn't comply with applicable codes, and so forth. By that time Emmert had been gone for 5 years. As to the legislature not having power to subpoena, I doubt their power would extend to Louisiana anyway. Legislative power is generally limited to within state boundaries. Maybe for criminal actions but seldom for civil actions. And nobody has claimed there were criminal acts associated with any of this. Mostly it was ineptitude on the part of a bureaucracy that didn't really no how to deal with a huge project...they had never overseen their own construction projects before. And anyway, by the time any of this came out, he was President of the University of Washington, several stops away from UConn.

I agree with your characterization of Emmert as a ratbastard. No disagreement there. But that doesn't support a case for why he would want to "get" UConn. I mean why UConn and not LSU? Or Montana State? You keep making this connection which essentially comes down to he worked at UConn. He left for a new job with apparently a positive review, then another and finally a 3rd and then decided to get back at UConn because they said he didn't do a great job 6 years after his tenure ended.

The DEMs are still blaming Bush and by the polls it still seems to be working.

Since you brought it up, aside from the hundreds of thousands of innocent lives lost, the mismanagement and incompetence of Bush2000 and Emmert2000 have a number of similarities.

JC was just on Mad Dog. It was good interview. Close to twenty five minutes. It was all done then Mad Dog oh yeah what about Emmert. Last week Mad Dog was killing Emmert. But JC took a pass and didnt kill him.

I think a timeline would show that Emmert's transgressions come to light after he departs for a new job. Facts seem to show a line of sacrificed subordinates. Experience has shown me that people who go to great lengths to protect false integrity tend to be vindictive against those who question that integrity--------until exposed, for good. He is really starting to look like the worst kind of weasel.

Don't forget about useless trillion dollar wars. That too.

Take it to the cesspool, please. Why crap up a thread with political positions? Right, left, central or non voter, I couldn't care less....but thanks for sharing.

I completely agree with this. High level execs like this, IMNSHO, go to great lengths, to make sure that they have plenty of people to blame when things go wrong. I'd go as far to say, that the vast majority of their time, is not spent on actually thinking and working amd problem solving to get a specific task or job done, but the vast majority of effort goes into the "problem solving" of the simply CYA principle. Alleviating themselves from any blame for whatever course of action occurs.

It can indeed take the form of vindictive behavior to both subordinates that report to said exec, or to people that have absolutely no personal connection at all, other than through whatever projects are involved.

I still don't know of anything specific that would give Emmert motivation to inflict damage on the University of Connecticut, other than to promote is own agenda of CYA. And that certainly fits the bill. Holding UCONN feet to the fire, b/c of documented rules transgressions with the NCAA (irrespective of how dumb those rules might be), is a feather in Emmert's cap, especially since he did hold the position he did at UCONN for a couple years. I really don't think there is anything more to that, than simply hubris. People, often make the mistake, of assuming because people are in position to make decisions that have very wide ranging and powerful effect, don't make choices based on the same kind of human emotions and thought that people use to choose to either go to somebody's wedding or kid's birthday party or something.

As far as the dodging of investigations, etc. that Pudge brings up. My guess is that if the legal authority were put in action to require Emmert to provide some kind of testimony or evidence, or whatever - were to be put in action, then indeed, Emmert would be answering questions. In the absence of that, there is no reason whatsoever for this guy, to simply volunteer information that could be damaging to himself.

I'm wondering Pudge, if there is something more, that you aren't saying. I really know of nothing, that the guy did that was inappropriate, other than being incompetent at the task he was charged with regarding the UCONN 2000 mission project, adn skipping town before the really hit the fan regarding the project.

Personally, with hindsight focus of course, the people that hired Emmert, and monitored, and worked with him, shoulder as much blame as Emmert does for the screwups with UCONN 2000.

Sorry, my fault. I was trying to use it as an example of how its easy to blame the guy who isn't there anymore. Should have know better than that. People always react like that.

Emmert is, Mike Farrell at Rivals is, ESPN is, in fact everyone is out to get us - that's the only reason we are not in the SEC!

But, geez, he looked uncomfy on the stage last night - like a narc at a biker rally.

He's got to know he's the most hated man in Connecticut. Geno really didn't seem to acknowledge him.

No, the third most hated man in CT - I still think Peter Karmanos and Robert Kraft are still hated more!! :)

Kraft really didn't have much impact, just a tease, but Karmanos stole hockey from me. The whole game. Gone.

I just started getting into the Bruins this year when they picked up Jagr. He was one of THE guys in my heyday, and I enjoy following old stars who still have something.

I'm with you on Karamonos.

I married a girl from Winnipeg, though. I've followed the Jets pretty closely since they got the team back.... I hadn't followed any team closely since the Whalers left. It's a fun team to root for... a young team with some oustanding talent trying to take the next step.

I'm still not ready to embrace the Bruins, who tried to screw Hartford during the merger talks! My team (for now) is my Lightning and I still wear a Ron Francis Whalers shirt to the game again the Whalers (not the Hurricanes)

That actually sounds cool. Given that I'm unmarried, I can't just pick a team at random and jump on the wagon though. Gonna have to start taking applications from some Canadian birds.

I feel you, I do. I don't have a love for the Bruins jersey, but I do enjoy their style of play: scrappy, physical, hard nose, full tilt hockey. And the Jagr thing. I also liked watching old man Tim Thomas do his thing before he jumped the shark.

Respect the Franchise jersey. That is true dedication. Now I have Brass Bonanza playing in my head. Greatest fight song in hockey.

And the Doper in Chief 2008/2012.
