Tennessee has another tough OOC schedule next year.

"Warlick said the Lady Vols will play national champion Baylor, which should be an overwhelming preseason choice as the No. 1 team. The Lady Bears beat UT twice last season while going 40-0. Warlick had said earlier she would prefer to postpone that game until 2013-14.

In addition to the Baylor game in Waco, Texas, UT will play the University of Texas in Austin. It also will play non-conference road games against Miami and Georgia Tech, both of whom made the NCAA tournament this past season.

The non-conference home schedule should be just as taxing with Final Four teams Stanford and Notre Dame coming to Thompson-Boling Arena. The Lady Vols will play Rutgers, another NCAA tournament team, and North Carolina is coming back on the schedule for a home game. The Lady Vols last played the Tar Heels in 2007."

So, Baylor, Texas, Miami, GTech, Stanford, ND, and UNC. looks like 2-5 at best. They also play Vandy 2 times and they return all of their starters from a team that beat them last year. Kentucky, USC and maybe Texas A&M.

Gonna be a tough season.

Not sure what you mean by "Kentucky, USC and maybe Texas A&M."

None, but I was being nice. I know, it's hard to believe.

That is...not a good sign. Can't be the best unless you play against the best. With a roster of former high school AAs they don't even want to attempt to play the defending national champs? Yikes.

And I don't see Texas as being very good next year. Doesn't really count as a tough OOC game. They SHOULD be good, but they probably won't be.

Postpone the game until after Griner leaves? That is not something that Pat would have done. The LVs are becoming La. Tech. :)

[Summitt post drag-over deleted. Kind of a clever technique, DD, but not to be repeated. I've left the last sentence only because there were substantive overnight responses. -- JS]

While the last group didn't get to the final 4, 2 of the 3 times that they stood a legitimate shot, they drew Griner.

If I'm Holly Warlick and I'm looking at Harrison, Graves and Burdick as my options in the post, I'd want to postpone playing Baylor until after Griner graduates. The Baylor-TN match-up next season could produce one of the worst beat-downs of a LVol team ever.

I didn't read the story as saying Ms. Warlick is NOW asking to have the game postponed, and so took the liberty of changing the thread title.

I think it says she had earlier stated her preference to postpone, but nonetheless now has Baylor on the schedule for 2012-13. Maybe Baylor wouldn't cooperate with the postponement.

^ replying to DD - not sure what the fans really think the stood a legitimate shot at? they got destroyed by 3 out of the 4 teams who made it to the final 4. ND, Baylor and Stanford destroyed them during the regular season. UCONN beat Stanford and had close games with Baylor and ND. any of the final 4 teams would have destroyed them.

Actually... I think they should beat those four teams.... UNC wont be tough next season.. Miami and Ga Tech both lost alot... and Texas always underachieves.

Personally..... Duke would have eliminated Tenn if Tenn would have gotten by Baylor in the Sweet 16 that year.... but of course I'm a bit biased

Actually I think GA Tech gained alot, and they have really good guards in Marshell, and Wallace.

They should be pretty good. New coach, new system, a lot of new pieces (two incoming frosh, a few jucos, and Cassie Peoples is as good as a frosh), and that's definitely not a tough OOC game. Texas is a tournament-caliber team, maybe even win a game or two in the tournament-caliber team if things come together...but indeed not a team whose presence on the schedule should preclude playing anyone else.

I call BS. Tenn played Baylor in the Sweet 16 in 2010 when Griner was a freshman and lost by 15 points. That 2010 Tenn team was one year removed from the Ball State fiasco and was not a Final Four team. Last year's team struggled to beat Kansas in the Sweet 16 and in the Elite 8 proved it was not in the same class as Baylor. I don't think Tennessee could have beaten any of the other FF teams last year had it been placed in another region. ND and Stanford crushed Tennessee during the regular season and UConn beat Stanford and was one defensive rebound away from beating ND in the semi-finals. Tenn was a second tier team last season and won't be as good next season.

The 2010 team could've made it. They were a #1 seed, but had the misfortune to face an emerging Baylor team, which was underseeded at #4. Against a different #4, and then Duke ... possible.

It's the new Tennessee way, "Run from what you can't beat."

Not a good sign for a program. In the "lean" years of UConn bball post Diana, did Geno water down the schedule?

Gotta wonder how many losses Tenn will have next season. I would be very surprised if they dont have at least 10. This is a program spiralling down, and Holly is doing her best to curtail that. The bottom has fallen out. Its going to be a very long time before we see Tenn competitive at the top of WCBB again.

Tony, it all depends on the 2013 and 2014 classes. But for sure, they need some talented classes to be a top 5 team again.
