Went full Robert Frost with the road less traveled.

Hung up the pads and retired at halftime of today's Bills/Chargers game. He quit. At halftime.

Bills DB Vontae Davis shocks teammates by retiring at halftime

Teammates were pissed. Davis' official answer was he realized in the first half he doesn't belong in the NFL anymore. Knew he doesn't have the talent and knew he was being exposed.

In some ways it's the ultimate move that few athletes seem to get. He retired on his terms on his own recognizance.

On the other hand, the team has limited players for each game and he risked injury to his teammates by not suiting up for 30 more minutes.

It's not about the Bills' problems, it's about his ability to perform at the NFL level, which he said he realized he can no longer do.

Why it took halftime to discover this and bail is another story.

.-.
I don’t have a problem with it. If he truly felt he didn’t belong out there, he did the right thing. He said he didn’t feel right. That could mean he has a the pain from his injuries was too much or simply that he felt overmatched and didn’t want to get hurt. Regardless, if he chose to pull himself out of the game and retire later, same result for the Bills. A guy that feels incapable, shouldn’t be out on the field. It’s too dangerous.
