And winning their league title. I'm sure many here found it unflattering.

First league title since 1981 - falls under acceptable to me. They were opposed to win the game, but not the league. Thats huge for them.

Although I think I'm ready to see it banned after the fight between players and fans this week (Utah Valley and New Mexico State or something). It's just too dangerous/combustible if you can't get the players out of there to safety. Ideally, you'd be able to do a delayed storm after the other team is off the floor, but that takes out the spontaneity.

Yesterday I was at a high school basketball game, and when the buzzer sounded, one of the visiting players collapsed to the floor in devastation. He was about to be absolutely trampled by a few hundred charging students, but one of the assistant coaches saved the day and managed to create a circle of resistance around the kid so he could get up unscathed.

Really, that's my biggest problem with court storming. Generally something of that extent isn't going to happen, but the students pour onto the court so fast sometimes that inevitably a couple visiting players are going to get tangled up in the mess. When that happens, you're just asking for trouble.

The security guys actually formed a wall around the players/coaches while it was happening.

There was actually an incident during a football game while i was an undergrad there. UVA has a grass section in their stadium where the students sit and there used to be a weak little black fence about 3' high holding the students back. I think it was after we beat FSU and everyone stormed the field that the fence got pushed down, and a girl got stuck under it and trampled. Broke her back if i remember right...after that they never put the fence back up

I actually found it a bit shocking, Tony Bennett seems to be singing them to victory. (Pun intended) :D

I was at that UVA-FSU game about 5-10 feet back of the fence when that went down. Scary, scary scene. Security was shouting to the people in the front to stay back so some people were stopping up at the fence, but of course everyone behind us was rushing down the hill and that caused a pileup where everyone around me got completely trapped. I remember the mass of people behind us causing us to slowly tilt ever more forward down towards the ground. The students at the top of the hill had no idea what was going on down in the front. A couple of students went under and others were freaking out -- it actually started becoming difficult to breathe. Fortunately, some of us in my immediate area were able to clear out some space by shouting to the people in back of us to move backwards and getting them to keep passing the message on to those behind them. Eventually we were able to lead a push back up the hill, but by that point there were a number of people down. I think something like 12 people wound up injured. You really have no idea what it's like to be in a crowd crush until you've experienced it and it's not something you ever want to experience.

Let the kids be kids. This has been debated time and time again. Some may say, wow the court was rushed 5 years ago when we beat whoever. But remember the students that did this back then are no longer there and its a new set of students in the stands.

Rushing the court, in my opinion, has nothing to do with what school you are associated with. Just let the students be students and enjoy there time while at the school they represent.

UVA is not exactly a historical program; its last Sweet 16 was in '95, and they've only made the tournament 3 times in this millennium. By all means, storm the court after beating #4 to clinch a great home win, regular season title, and a big time boost in potential seeding for the tournament. This was a huge win for the program.
