Looking through some old drafts; may well have posted this in December.
Not seeking approbation; just happy to be right for a change...
After USC (December)
----------------
At the End, it wasn’t so important (to me) whether we won or lost
This game, Tonight, we learned something

In the ND game, we were just manhandled
In the 1st half we were just manhandled (or womanhandled) again.
Somehow, over halftime, Geno or the kids themselves, came to realize that college BB at this level is a knife fight, is the rumble at the playground from West Side Story and you better be ready or you’re going to get run over.

And so it was…less beautiful BB and as the refs were letting the physical game proceed…play it as it’s called…and bloody compete. Neither team was dirty in any respect…just hard nose, tough BB

And USC became considerably rattled at times when we were even tougher than them in the 4th and almost made it all the way back.
But today, we learned how to play big boy BB
And I don’t think we’ll forget.

i’m not going to get into who did what more effectively, just note who was on the floor when it mattered.
A great game

This season, more and more reminds me of Stewie’s first year
Pat had a year like that too

I’m absolutely not writing off our chances…

To funny - as I have quite a few drafts in my Notes app, as sometimes I want to write, think, and write more.

There were seasons when UConn seemingly had all the answers from Day 1. This past season was not one of them. Geno had to experiment with different player combinations, simplify some of what the team was doing on the court, get a key player healthy and push several young players to understand their roles and step up BIG time.

There were several keys that emerged this past season. Geno installed Jana as the starter fairly early on and he stuck with her through an up and down season. That confidence in Jana played out in 2 of the biggest games of the season: the win at SC and the national semifinal drubbing of UCLA.

The second key was the use of the small lineup with Sarah at the 5. That lineup was a matchup nightmare for every other team in WBB. It combined relentless pressure defense, remarkably effective rebounding, the ability to spread the floor, attack teams off the dribble or have multiple shooters knock down shots from the arc.

Even with Paige, Kaitlyn & Aubrey moving on, next season Geno is going to have a lot more answers on Day 1. As I have commented before, UConn will be able to respond to every challenge they face by going BIG, small and everything in between.
