Wife and I just got over very nasty colds that lasted for about two weeks. Our separate MD's said that they have had an avalanche of colds this season. If they have colds they're young and in great shape but rest and less stress in the remainder of the season will help.

While I came away from the game praising Kim Caldwell for having her Tenn team ready to play, after listening to her post game comments, wondering if she is the right person for this job. Her tendancy to blame her players for everything that went wrong came across as harsh and unnecessary. She built this team primarily with transfers so most would understand that at times there will be issues with how they play together. While Geno has always been direct, he usually did so with a smile and a strategy. Not sure what Kim was trying to accomplish after her team gave UConn one of its biggest scares of the year after beating them last year. What could have been used as a great recruiting video could be viewed as a young coach some would not want to play for.

This x100. She consistently throws her team under the bus. There were some real moments where the fractures in chemistry were highly visible on the court. I’m sure no athlete wants to be sitting in front of a press conference after particularly painful loss, but Barker’s body language was incredibly telling.
 
After reading the Lady Vol Nation web pages, one other comment. One of the themes of many posters was that Tenn should have hired a more senior, experienced coach. While Kim certainly has many things to learn, she is the only coach in the US to beat UConn in her first year, a year in which the Huskies won the National Champtionship. She followed that up with a well prepared first half this year where for much of the half, they outplayed UConn again. Tenn lost for many reasons, but having to play against Fudd and Strong, two of the top players in the US, coached by the best college coach ever has to be factored in. If I was one of these supposed "better coaches" and read the harsh comments from the "fan" base, I would run, not walk, away if the Tenn AD asked me to consider a job.
PS if you read this Lady Vol web site, you will not only be entertained, but likely come to regard the Boneyard comments as well intended and from informed posters in comparison.
 
I enjoyed the player’s press conference, but I wish some of the media had addressed more questions to K9. Such as what did you think of crowd versus USC? Or, you played incredible and the team benefited greatly from your energy: how did it feel?
 
Going to paraphrase it but Geno said something really cool I thought (he often does but this stood out)

He was asked what he said at halftime and if the players were fired up and he poured gasoline on it, or if he was more measured. He basically said "oh in my career, I'm king of pouring gasoline on the fire" LOL.

He went on to say that in the past with teams, that approach often worked, but with these guys, they already knew it wasn't going well, and if he went in and poured more gas on the fire, it would have added to their frustration and mental funk. Instead he talked about changes to make on offense and defense, and gave them encouragement.

He said with this group, standing behind them trying to whip them into what you want doesn't work. You need to reward them, and give positive reinforcement (reward) for what they are doing well.

To me it's really a measure of how smart he is - can't do the same thing over and over and over if it doesn't work with kids of this generation. It's also a testament to how smart he is as a coach - changing his approach over time to create an atmosphere of excellence learning and morphing as kids and times change. Man, are we lucky to have him and Chris...

In addition to really good posters, we have Nan and they don't. I suspect she cleans up a lot of bad posts, including yours truly 😊
