I must admit, I harbor a secret wish: that, on the fairly rare occassions that a women is asked to throw out a first pitch, that one of them would be a former softball pitcher, and that they still had a pretty good rise ball!

Gotta Love the UConn Sweatshirt!!!!

Bre is wearing a Grey Hoodie with "UConn Women's Basketball" over her heart.

She is, now, officially a UConn Husky.

As a hometown hero I expected she would have a Cicero North sweatshirt or jacket.

It appears that Cicero is "the past" for her. And UConn is her future.

We love you already, Breanna.

The fans got a double treat. Down the road, they can looks back and say that they saw the great Breanna Stewart. They also saw Bryce Harper go 2-4 with a single, double, and stolen base in his AAA debut. Harper was the #1 overall pick by the Nationals 2 years ago. He has Mickey Mantle written all over him. Geno would love his confidence; CD would not like his decorum or lack therof. Bryce passed his GED at age 16 so he could jump to junior college and use wooden bats. He basically battted .400 or better his entire life with bad vision, then he got contact lenses. Look for him in the majors later this season and for a long time to come.

The Nationals have a certified star in Ryan Zimmerman and a phenom in Stephen Strasberg, who started for the Nats yesterday and pitched very well after Tommy John surgery 18 months ago. Strasmania is alive and well in D.C. Stras has a 98 mph fastball and a curve that breaks about 2 feet.

A nice, balmy 39-degree day in 'Cuse. Perfect for baseball. :D
I wonder how many big-time recruits came to Storrs and were delighted that the winter weather was significantly better than their home town.

A la Johnny Carson, the correct format for the response to this setup goes like this:

"She's so tall that ... "
.

And the laughter begins as soon as the question is posed.
