As I have stated often, Ms Lawson has to say that. That UConn team flat out kicked her team's a** twice in 2002. Still, one cannot dispute her logic; pro success, Olympic team participation, etc. For my money, the 2010 UConn team was better because it was tested more often. The Big East in 2002 was as weak as it has ever been. There were no other Big East teams in the final Top 25 Coaches Poll. This year's Baylor team would have a difficult time cracking my Top 5 all time teams. It would be interesting to speculate about a hypothetical matchup between 2010 UConn and 2012 Baylor, two teams that did meet in the semifinal game to an extent. Would 2010 Tina still be able to school 2012 Brittney? Would Maya still be able to put up outstanding numbers against Jordan Madden? Add Odyssey Sims to the mix and Baylor would make things interesting.

2010 Tina would definitely not be able to school 2012 Griner. However, she would be able to hold her own in a way no post player currently in college could. In Maya, UConn would have a play that could get her shot whenever she wanted, including from deep, and more than equal Sims's production. Kalana was a player you could use in a lot of different ways defensively and disrupt a lot of what Baylor tries to do on offense, especially before getting the ball into the post. And of course that 2010 team had Buck, who seems to be pretty effective in spurts defending BG. KM is another kind of body to throw at BG.

I think that 2010 team wins a tough, scrappy game more often than not.

I think Kim Mulkey would not have the type of body that could be thrown at BG. ;)

Don't even think it's really open for debate. UConn's unbeaten teams went through an entire season without winning a game by less than 10 points. Baylor was life and death at home with UConn and won a couple other games by five points.

I am not familiar with the stats for that team. What was the lowest margin of victory for the year/playoffs?

Stand corrected - they did win a 9-point game in 2001-02 with Virginia Tech (59-50) that was close down the stretch. Other than that, Oklahoma (with Stacey Dales) lost to UConn by 14 in the regular season and 12 in the championship. Our last title team beat Stanford by six in the finals (was 16 with 2:30 to go, but then again, we barely scored 10 points in the first half) and 12 in the regular season. The year before, the closest margin was 10 at Rutgers. So I over-stated the case a little -- Baylor has a place at the table in the debate, anyway.

Isn't that the team that Pat Summitt went into the locker room to congratulate and made the joke about making sure they were really graduating?

yes. Her kids got carved up like a thanksgiving turkey in the national semis, and she'd been around the block enough to know greatness when she witnessed it.
