Remember concerns people had of UConn hiring an OC who didn't call plays during the game?

Some people in leadership or management positions would make sure that a glaring weakness in one of their new hires would be a point of emphasis to monitor and check for performance.


Electroshock therapy is a valid tool right now. Hook up a timer and shock mechanism to him. If he doesn't spit out a play call that UConn uses inside the 20 within 8 seconds, he gets a zap. Repeat all week. Basically the goal is to induce a Tourette's type reflex where calling a play is compulsory.

I'm working on end of year assessments for myself and my team.

Just thinking out loud.

Staff can make a change in ouny returner mid-game but basic coaching execution screw ups go unchecked for half the season.

I get that Diaco has a plan to rebuild the program and there has been tangible proof.

But sometimes plans and time frames need to be adjusted. Play calling is an area that needs more attention. Stat.

Perfectly fair to bring up Verducci's lack of history in this area - it's the simplest explanation. Diaco still hired him. Now it's gotta get fixed, and quickly. I get that Diaco likes to hire guys he's worked with and trusts... And that can be ok... But you may not end up with the best candidate for the job. And I'm not trying to hammer Verducci, who seems very nice, very experienced, and I'm sure has the tools to learn and succeed. But he doesn't seem to be there just yet.

You can be OK ..... and still get better ... continuous improvement is what we should all strive for.

You guys are way too rational.......Our guy has a flaw, and he's not the worst in America, and it can be fixed...And you guys accurately assessed him as a progressive coach how has shown that he has improved our offense but not predicted that he would win us a National Championship in the next 5 years. Wow. What the hell is going on around here?!

Why is Verducci upstairs too? Maybe that's the issue, shouldn't he be down on the sidelines calling plays? Is that the delay? I don't know, but with how far our QB situation has progressed, and solid young talent at WR and RB we shoudn't be this bad on offense. I'm calling it now, if they don't improve Verducci is a one and done here.

This one game bascially cost them the season. Now you're forced to win this weekend at Cincy, at home against ECU, and then at Tulane. Or have a miricle and split one of the two last games- Temple or Houston (which isn't going to happen w/ this team).

The play calling is a lot better this year. Offense needs to finish drives in the end zone. Better play calls in the red zone might help. They had 500 yards of offense this week. What are the expectations here? From last year I'm happy to see the offensive improvement.

Offense is much better between the 20's. Needs to become much more effective in the Red Zone. The late play calling has twice had the multiplier effect of losing yardage on delay of game penalties and burning TO's that cost the team later in the half.

The problem is obvious and needs to be corrected. I'll go out on a limb and say it's been noticed by the staff. But, the change in behavior hasn't been seen yet.

I think that we all want better, and that should go without saying, but the easy button isn't a real thing, there were still many glaring things that needed to be fixed and question marks all over the two deep. Tell me at the end of the spring game you expected us to be in every game to this point? If anyone predicted that our offense, at any point, would have put up over 500 total yards they would have been mocked mercilessly. They said they are fixing things and getting better, can you tell me they haven't been true to it? Have they done anything to lead you to say otherwise?

You wanted something beyond a completely competitive team that fights to the end who is not boring to watch with a punchers chance at getting to a bowl game in year two of a rebuild. So based on our past years situation what exactly are those far higher expectations just so everyone is clear how our high expectations differ from your far higher undefined expectations?

I know we're going to disagree and that's fine, but stating you have far higher expectations without even a hint of what they are is a bit unrealistic IMO.

For the first games of the season, the back up QBs waggled the plays in to Bryant. For the USF game, they didn't waggle--each made just one motion: a TD sign, a raised fist, etc. I don't know if this was an effort to speed up the process of relaying plays or something completely different.

I've always enjoyed watching the "Backup Quarterback Pantomime Theater" on the sideline; it was odd when each made just one signal.
